5,1 L 12 valve 6 cil
5,1 L 12 valve 6 cil
Sorry guys for this its not a cummins but its a 6 cilinder ,I have a Yanmar 5,1 Litre 6 inline turbo diesel innercooled
factory rated at 370 HP,it is a marine engine
I have not put it in my boat ,but a friend has a simulair set up ,and he does not have low end torque enough to come into plane quickly.
Is there a way to make the turbo spool up faster ?
It uses a regular fuel pump ,looks like a bosch pump to me, but probably japanese.
Can I change timing to spool up quiker ?and if so how much ?
or use bigger injectors ?
any ideas ?
thanks sterling

Thanks for help,I will try to make some fuel adjustments to see if it helps.
If not enough I am going to order a small nitro kit to help the engine rev up
or maybe better an 2 speed trans ,but that sets me back with an empty wallet.

Do you suppose a different prop would be the answer? If the prop thats on it now is too big its like a truck taking off in too high a gear . Just a thought from a land locked trucker............
Due to the short powerband 750-3300 rpm I am forced to go with a heavy pitch prop to achieve topspeed and 3300 rpm max
if I prop it down to a smaller pitch ,I would have indeed no problem to come into plane ,but then i will reach 3300 rpm to soon ,so it will probably hit the diesel pump limiter (rpm)and probably will defueling, and the boat will run not at its max speed.
nitro oxide if I am going to use it, is only to spool up the turbocharger ,just for a fraction .
maybe I have to convert it with a relentless arctic air twin turbo kit ?
now here ,s an idea
