24 valve v. 12 valve

24 valve v. 12 valve
I have a client who thought he was buying a Dodge Ram with a 24 valve cummins. Turns out it is a 12 valve and he is not happy. He wants out of the deal. I know zero about diesels. Is he being picky? Is this a serious misreprsentation to those of you who know this stuff?<br><br>Thanks

in my opinion, knowing what i know now, the 12-valve engines are less prone to injection pump failure which is very expensive to replace...the new 24 valve's are more effecient supposedly however their is NOTHING wrong w/ a 12-valve...im sure more 12- valve guys will chime in, by the way, i own a 24 valve..just my .02

well;I do not know the whole story but if it was me I would want out of the deal thats for sure. a 24 valve is not the same animal even if its better or worse. If I wanted a 24 v thats what i want; dose not matter what some else might think. thats my opion.

IMO, the 12 valve is much more reliable than the<br>24 valve engine, primarily due to the weak fuel system<br>on all the 24 valve engines!! The history of transfer/lift<br>pump failures on these 24 valve engines is well documented!<br>Even on a bone stock engine, the system is barely adequate.<br>I have almost 209,000 miles on my 96' 12 valve and I am<br>still running the original lift pump in that engine!! The <br>P7100 fuel pump in the 94'-98.5' 12 valve engines are<br>nearly indestructable. They are cooled by oil AND fuel,<br>not just fuel as is the case on the VP-44 pump on the<br>24 valve engine. On my 96' 12 valve the engine and fuel<br>system have lasted despite the engine putting out nearly<br>500 H.P. and over 1200 lbs. of torque!!! And I drive<br>the truck very hard but take good care of it. Many of the<br>members on this site will verify that too! <br><br>Tell your friend that if he wants a 24 valve engine that he<br>should get what he wants as "thumper" already pointed<br>out.
