2 Dodges to pull out 1 Dodge Gasser

Heading to a friends place tonight to help paint his cultivator when I see a few lights down the road from my place just sitting on the road. Head down there to see what was going on, as I get closer there is a Dodge 1500 Quad Cab that plowed it's way into the ditch and got stuck quite nicely! Neighbour of mine already there with his 3rd Gen Quad Cab 2500 Cummins just getting ready to hook on. Had a tow strap and chain attached to the rear of the stuck Dodge and to the front hooks of the Cummins. He tries to reverse and the truck just spins, doesn't even move the stuck truck (he is also in 4wd trying to help out). I tell my neighbour I have a tow strap, why don't I attach my truck to the back of his and try 2 trucks out So I get my truck hooked onto my neighbours (I'm driving forward) and away we go (I was using 4wL). You could hear/feel my tires spinning the odd time (gravel road that is partially snow covered). I could sure as heck feel the load on the truck but we managed to get the truck out in one try. At one point we had the gasser sideways with his front end still hung over into the ditch and we just kept pulling him along.

Once we got the gasser onto the road and stopped, my neighbour comes to me and says "Pretty sure that my truck did all the work on that one) I just laughed, shook hands, shared thank yous and I carried on my way. Funny thing is my neighbour had his son come down with his Chev Gasser ext cab just in case we needed a 3rd truck

I wish I got video or pictures, but it was pretty fun. My old girl hasn't had a good pull in awhile

sounds like fun, i try to help out whenever i can.

my latest pull was pulling my buddies 379 day-cab up a icy hill to bring it into the shop. my truck was in the shop so i could get traction. i was amazed at how easily 4Lo works on these things. i had to set the truck at stock because i kept spinning with the edge on 1x3. good times

My last pull was an H1 buried in the barrow ditch up past the hood in wet sand. Uni pulled it out in less than 2 minutes.

IMO...had the first truck tried pulling it out w/the strap/chains hooked to it's back it probably would have worked. When pulling in reverse the tranny will heat up much faster vs. fwd. I'd always recommend pulling from the back vs. in reverse.

But I thought your vehicle receives more traction while in reverse? Either way it was fun and got to put some work on my truck, lol. Our gravel roads get pretty slippery with snow, so we were lucky our trucks did it. Cause then we would have had to get the Tractor, lol.

I always try to help someone that is stuck(depending on their attitude). It's always more fun if they have a Chevy or a Furd.

Same, if they are nice people I will ask they would like my help/like me to try and pull them out. I always get the owner of the vehicle to hook their vehicle to my truck...don't want to get myself in trouble.

I was dropping off friends one Sunday night after visiting my sister and Brother in Laws place. Was about 2am when I got around to dropping them off at their houses. Dropped them off in a small town and just turned around in the intersection and headed home. Noticed a vehicle coming up on me pretty quick so I thought it was a Police Officer. Got to my road and turned left and started accelerating. Watching in the rear view mirror, I saw this car try to turn (going way too fast however) and put it right into the ditch, almost hitting a hydro pole. I stopped, reversed and rolled down my window when I got to the person. I asked if they were alright, he was like "yes I am, but what are you doing?" Im like "Im heading home from dropping off some friends." So he asked me what I was doing before that, I just briefly told him. Ended up being he thought I was stealing things in this little town. I laughed and said for the amount of times you have probably seen and heard my truck in Kintore (the town), what makes you think I would be stealing stuff and where in the heck would I put it? (flat bed at the time). He then asked me if I could pull him out, I'm just like sorry, don't have a rope (I did however) and drove home. If they guy wasn't such Mr Attitude towards me, I maybe would have been more helpful

Pulling in reverse is not as effective. The truck was made to pull forward... When you hook to someone and their truck is lower than yours, it will squat the end of the truck that you are pulling from, and the front has enough weight already.

I have never heard the tranny heating up worse in reverse, but I don't doubt it.

My most recent pull........was me getting pulled, lol.

Got mine stuck this morning, got in some deep snow at the edge of the road and got sucked in the ditch.

I almost had the truck out, decided to try a different way, ended up buried up to my step bars when I finally gave in and called for a tow truck.

I even got a little discount on the bill for being one of the local Firefighters.

Yea, it doesn’t take much to be humbled, I haven’t been stuck yet this year, but then again it is only January.

I use to tell my friends, when you truely believe you can't get stuck in a 4 wheel drive, you better start carrying a shovel and a good Kansas jack. Now days I guess it would be carry a cell phone and a AAA card.

Dinner, I came across something like that recently, F-250 in a deep ditch, they were hooking up a Ram 2500 V-10, 4X4 when I pulled up. I hung around to watch and help if needed, the V-10 yanked him right out, a little tire spinning but basically he made it look pretty easy, I was impressed.

Yea, a lot of it is traction and mass of the towing vehicle. My truck is mostly front heavy with no weight on the rear of the truck. My truck is about 7600lbs (cab and chasis) with my weight added on the frame. And also my rear tires are almost pure slicks LOL.

I've always thought about making my dually into a big heavy truck for driving around during winter (get another truck for summer time). Get a box thrown on the truck, weight the heck out of it so that it really pulls, lol.
