96 Dodge Gasser - Brakes prob!

I've got a brake problem that is getting to me. When you apply the brakes to slow down from highway speeds (55-65 MPH) you will get vibration from the front axle (I think). You feel it in the steering wheel and it get worse as it slows down then stops vibrating about 20 MPH.

I've bled the brakes and changed fluid.

I've had the rotors turned.

The brake shoes are good.

I'm stumped please help...

It may still be in your rotors. Maybe try this: remove tire reinstall a couple lug nuts and indicate the rotor braking surface. I have had this prob. before - caused by the rotors not being trued correctly when turned. just my .002

If a tire shop employee cut loose on the lug nuts with an impact wrench set to Warp 9, the mistorqued lugs can distort even a perfectly true rotor.

Don't know about on the 1500s but on the larger trucks the rotors need to be turned while on the vehicle if you want it right. I've found it cheaper/better to just buy new rotors rather than have them turned. www.tirerack.com has excellent prices on high quality rotors.

I am with Bill on this, replace the rotor and forget about turning it.

The rotors they use now are much thinner than the old one's, you turn them down, then splash water from a puddle on the hot rotor, and it warps I have seen this happen on many different types of vehicle.

I have 120,000 on my original rotors on my 96, I keep the pads I good condition and have never needed to touch the rotors. I will be replacing them with the next set of pads though
