1990 ford f-700,any experiance?

Im looking at a f-700 with a dump bed for our landscaping business. I know it has an allison auto, but the owner can't tell me what motor, only that its diesel. Any one have any experiance with these rigs? Im having a hard time finding info on the net. It has 126,000, and the guy wants 10,000. If the truck is in good shape I figure thats a steal. Any of you guys have any idea on the engine? thanks.

Without seeing it or any other info, I can't say for sure. Quite possible it is a 5.9 though. probably a 175 or 190hp. They made some 230's too.

It's either a 6.6 or 7.8, those were used until about 93 or 94 when the Cummins took over. Based on the New Holland tractor engine, and quite reliable. Either engine can be turned up a little, but not too much. They have a Bosch A-pump.

The condition of the truck looks very good, the owner told me it was an inline 6 with ford badges. That lost me. I couldn't find any info. We are going to look today i believe, it has an ally auto, that sounds interesting.

My dad used to have a 1990 with a 6.6 with 350,000 on it when he sold it, no major problems. Air breaks or elec/hyd breaks?

Tank, I assume that they are elec/hyd, since no special license is required for the truck. We are going to look at it tommorow, is there anything special i should look for?

Those engines were based on the Ford/Lehman that were made in South America I believe. They were a good engine. If you google Ford/Lehman you will find a lot of them are still being used in the marine industry so parts should not be too much of a problem.Ron G

well, it was a nice truck, but had a 4spd auto, at 45 mph the truck was at 2400 rpm, no deal. We allready have 2 of the slowest diesels on earth, 86 NPR's, so we definatly need a 5 or 6 speed. thanks for the replys

RAT 03, it seemed like a very stout rig, but the 6.6 is rated at 170 hp, thats less than my truck. I' m going to keep my eye out for a manual with the 7.8(ithinkthatscorrect), cause that seemed like to much truck with only 170 hp, an auto 4spd.

Well, one thing I did not like about the F series dump trucks I drove was that they are not that comfortable to drive IMO. They were bench seat trucks and felt like you were sitting in the floor, maybe bucket seat trucks are better. We also had two L-8000s with the 7.8 engines, They were good strong running engines with a 5 and 2. Felt stronger than the 8.3 cummins trucks stock vs. stock.
