Mud Ready

I bought my first diesel about 6 weeks ago and have noticed that the fuel doesnt seem to have that strong of an oder. From my limited experience with diesels I remember the fuel having a strong oder (which I rather like). Does the new ULSD smell less or is it just me?

i noticed it too and my truck smoked a little more this moring than normal when i started it up this morning

Well, in my opinion, the strongest smell that raw diesel has is the sulfur component. Now that they have reduced the sulfur content from 500 parts per million to 15, its much less noticable than before.

The sulphur-removal process during ULSD refining also reduces the aromatics from the #2, so it doesn't smell as strong.

I hear that the low sulfer causes the fuel pumps to leak

I ran one tank of ulsd cause our little small town store finally changed over. That is not "finally" like I'm happy about it either! I really did not notice any difference in smell, or maybe it was'nt on my mind. However, I did notice the smell the morning after I filled up with B20 bio!!
