Illegal diesel

Illegal diesel
I was at a super wal-mart today and noticed a sticker on the pump that said this diesel is illegal to use in 2007 year model vehicles. It also said it would damage those vehicles. I wonder if the people that buy early 07 s will have a hard time finding the ultra low sulphur. Any body else see this?

I've never seen anything about it being illegal. I have seen a few stickers that said it was ultra low sulfer and could damage 2007+ diesel engines. Nothing about being illegal that I recall, but my memory isn't what it used to be...

I saw the same thing last week. I can't remember what state it was in-I think South Carolina. It said that it not only would damage 2007 and later model year vehicles, but that it was illegal to put in those vehicles. That makes sense-the '07 vehicles probably can't meet their emission standards with the low sulfur fuels. And, like running leaded gas in a car with a cat converter, it may also be that those fuels will damage emission control components-hence the warning about damage.

If it is green it is legal for on road usage..................taxed as such.
If it is red you are looking at a 10k fine in Ca for using it in your on road vehicle!!!
Not kidding!!! FYI check points are up all over this state right now because of fuel prices!!!
Don't say I did not warn you

That's true, in the sense that using green fuel onroad is not a tax violation. However, it now seems that low sulfur fuel is not low enough in sulfur to run properly in the '07 and later diesels. Running it in those is apparently illegal, though (like you said) not in a tax sense, but rather an epa violation sense.

I don't think he is talking about off-road vs. on-road. He is talking about low-sulfur vs. ULTRA low sulfur that will be required for the 2007 model year diesels.

I am a bit confused, why would auto makers build motors that are not compatable with ULSF? You would think they would know it was comming, I mean we did...

The new engines are ULSD compatible, but the emissions controls can be damaged by plain old low sulfur fuel. Those stickers will go away once ULSD is everywhere.

We are switching over to ULSD at the pipeline I load at on the 15th of July. That should give enough time to blend out the LSD before the new 07's hit the dealerships & are ready for sale.
This is a Kinder Morgan loading facility & the facility in Calif will be switching Sept 1st. That might be a problem for guys that take early delivery of 07 models.

Noticed that sticker where I usually fill up as well... It's a BP station too! I opened a thread on this last week and there was another thread that had been opened on it a few days prior to mine! Sounds like it's getting more common...

Down here in the Memphis, TN area were about 60-70% of the fuel is supplied by Premcor or Lion Oil, the company i transport for (Lion Oil) switched to ULSD this past Wendsday. I can't speak for premcor, but they shouldn't be too far behind if not allready supplying the market also.
