Thumbs up First Biodiesel Batch

Last week I made my first 40 gallon batch of Biodiesel and put in 10 gallons last night. She is running fine and no starting problems. I am putting in small amount at first, so that the gunk that will get cleaned out won't plug up the fuel filter.
I should start running B100 in about 2 weeks.

good luck, keep us posted on how it goes.

are you using WVO? if so, how hard was it to find? I know alot of the restaraunts may have contracts with someone and are not willing to do any business with the private bio-brewer.

Yes it is WVO. I have two places that I get it from. I still need to go out and find a couple of more places. I need about 25 gallons of WVO a week to run 100%. It is getting a little harder to find places that are willing to give it away.
Luckily one is owned by friends and the other my bosses son works at.

why are they not willing to give it away? thought they would want to have somebody take it for free and not have to pay someone else, unless it's under contract like I stated before.

The reason they do not want to give it away anymore is that they can get about 32 cents a pound for it now from the big guys making biodiesel...

nothing is cheap or easy anymore... well... there was that one girl.... nevermind...

the big guys meaning mass production plants? I thought they pretty much kept away from the WVO and used crops.

Usually they have a friend that is getting it already or they are locked into a contract with a company that hauls it away.

Well just reporting back on how things are going. First tank went well, no problems other than a light smoke when you start it up after sitting for 4 hours or more. Second tank I am running about B70 and it smokes more on start up, but only after sitting overnite. When you start it up, it sounds like it missing, it only happens for about 15 seconds. Then it stops smoking and idles smooth.

As far as mileage. I am still getting about the same, about 17mpg average highway and city driving.

Just be careful running B100 in that common rail. In the winter your FP will drop a lot. Stuff gets really thick in the cold.

I don't plan on running B100 during the winter. It will be 50/50 mix and I will be adding Technol B100 cold flow improver to the batches to help it during the winter months.

On my third tank of Biodiesel and running B100. Still no problems other than the small amount of smoke when starting up after the a long sitting period.

Are you doing your shake test and 27/3 test before pumping it into the truck? How about filtering?
