The Color of Diesel?

I was filling up yesterday and while topping off I notice that the diesel was BROWN in color. Even the foam had a brown tint to it. I have seen a RED tint (offroad). I have even seen clear to yellowish and a greenish tint but never brown. Is this normal?

Sorry there are no rocks in Highlands. I have to travel at least 4-5 hours away to rockcrawl. But I have been out to Hwy 90 a few times to play in the mud but dont like the clean-up afterwards.

I got it at the Diamond Shamrock in Highlands for $2.19/gal. Not a bad price but not good either if it is a poor grade. Where do you buy your diesel at?

No, this place is just a quick stop and rob place. After I go through this tank I will check and see if it affects my millage and change the filter.

My bet is the place you filled up doesn't move much diesel and it's old.
Doubt if you'll have any problem at all.

From http://www.chevron.com/products/prod...l/L2_qa_fs.htm

The diesel fuel I bought recently has a darker color than I am used to seeing. Does this mean the fuel has gone bad?
The color of a diesel fuel is not related to its performance. As long as the fuel meets the specifications, it will perform well in your engine.
Diesel fuel can range from colorless to an amber or light brown color, depending on the crude oil and the refinery processing used to produce it. Diesel fuel may darken after months of storage, due to oxidation of trace components, but this will not affect its performance. However, if the darkening is accompanied by the formation of sediment, the fuel could plug filters. If diesel fuel is stored for use in an emergency, it should be used within one year and replaced with fresh fuel, unless special precautions are taken.

Thanks for the posts. I have bought diesel there before and never had a problem. I will keep an eye on my fuel pressure after the filter and also check for any suffering of MPG.

This place is not a big truck stop where they move tons of diesel it is just a small store. I could drive a couple of miles and get to the big truck stop that moves bunches of diesel and probably not have a problem.

I'm looking @ this 1983 2 axle, 6 wheeled Ford dump truck to buy, and I noticed that there wasn't any "capacity plate" on the fuel tank. I'm a poor estimate of what the gallon capacity would be...any ideas out there on what it would be?
