Unhappy panel on drivers side of the engine

there is a panel on the engine located behind the injection pump that runs the length
of the engine. It has the vent tube on it and there is a gasket on the perimiter of this panel.

now for the dumb question. "is the following normal"? I don't believe that it is, I'm just looking for verification.

the corners of this panel appear as though some one tried to pry this panel off and caused a gap of about 1/4 inch between the gasket and the block in each of the 4 corners.

if I have to pull this panel any sugestions on the best way to do this?

thanks

What you're seeing is sound deadening material and they all look like this. We were looking for the source of an oil leak on a friends truck and thought that didn't look right. Opened the hood and looked at mine and it was the same. His oil leak was the seal between the vacuum and power steering pumps.

I went to the dealer yesterday he brought up a pic that showed this plate and an additional plate and a gasket making this a 3 piece affair. And I was told that the outer cover often warps and it will be ok no need to tear in to it.
