Fan Clutch Problems

I have a 2003 3500 that I have been having issues with the fan clutch.
I was in a small accident late last year, and it was enough that it knocked the fan clutch wiring loose from the fan shroud, and the wires got cut by the fan.
I replaced it with a fan clutch from the junkyard, and in a few weeks, the wiring had come loose again, and was cut by the fan again. So I spliced it back together, and I used some 1/8 rod and taped it all together. and thought it would work. About 3 miles down the road, I realize that the wires were cut again.

It would seem that I cannot wire this thing without it getting cut by the fan.

Is there any way to put an old style fan clutch on the truck?

If not, where is the best place to buy one of these electirc clutches?

Thanks, Chris

that latest issue of diesel power showed an ad in the rear of the mag for a complete electric fan conversion.

A manke,

I had my zip tied to the rad. too. but I think they might have been too tight. As several of the zip ties busted. I am thinking that since the rad. is stationary, and the fan moves with the engine, that maybe the torque and movement pulled the wire enough to snap the zip ties.

I just called the local used parts place, and they want 275.00 for a used clutch.

Sure sounds steep. I would really prefer to use a clutch off of an older model, but I am not sure they will work.

If it was frontend damage to the truck, I would look at the rad support. And maybe measure the distance from the rad to the fan on another truck. When my wires got cut I also looked into changing to the old style clutch fan and I didn't get any straight answers. The only thing they would say was that the threads would be different, but didn't know if it could be adapted. They kept saying that I would loose fuel mileage, set off codes, blah blah blah. Those wires make me nervous too.

well they draw upwards of 25amps, so what ever power you free up from removing the belt driven fan , the alternator is going to take powering the electric motors.

Im having the same prob. Advance priced me a new one for around 130, but now Im wondering if they priced the right thing. Ive been looking into electric fans, but have had no luck. Which issue are yall talking about? Also I can hear the clutch try and lock in, but I can hold the fan with my finger. Yet as hard as I try, I cant make the truck touch 200. my wires were only nicked, and I reconnected them back together, but I think it might have pulled loose in the clutch housing.
