Thanks 95z28a

Where in Louisiana are you ???? You mentioned hurricane Gustav which tells me YOU are near me !! Would love to see the QSB in person! I have my sights on the QSB also so your research is very valuable to me !!

I DID call Jim @ Pheonix and he said they DO NOT have the SAE 4 to AX-15 ; but if I wanted to send my bellhousing and flywheel they would prolly do it ( but , it would take some time ) and then make it available.
Jim did say they made ONE but the customer was in dire need to get it back quickly and there were some issues so they are not confident in reproducing that ONE !!
If you have part #s ..... please share !!

Almost forgot .... you mentioned a spread sheet on parts purchased for the conversion and I was wondering if you would mind posting it .... MAYBE in your flickr acct photos ????

Thanks again !!

I did look at the Centerforce dual friction ; but it did not include alignment tool or pilot bearing!! I liked the Centerforce in my 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T S/E 440 with 4-speed.

This is the clutch I found at summit racing.com.....

Zoom p/n # HP 1890-1D

Built to withstand time and the elements.
These industry-leading Zoom High Performance clutch kits feature a disc with a dual-sided KEVLARŽ friction surface. They're designed to hold up over time against high rpm, huge loads, and high heat. They are recommended for street/strip applications, towing or snow plowing, and off-roading. These kits include a disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing.

What is your opinion of the clutch???

Sorry about the bad info. Jim told me of the AX15 to SAE 4 adapter set at the end of last year. IIRC, he said it was being field tested and would probably be ready for production after the first of the year (1/2009). He seemed very positive at the time and even suggested that I use that methosd instead of the Dakota bellhousing. I just assumed it would be in production by now. My bad. [/QUOTE]

I did not know I could upload an Excel spreadsheet to Flickr. I'll make a copy of it, clean it up and attempt to upload it.

I don't know if the Centerforce clutch design has any advantages in a low RPM diesel application. It is my understanding that the additional holding power of a Centerforce clutch is provided by the centrifugal force generated at higher RPM. As the the engine spins faster, the weights attached to the diaphragm fingers are "pulled" away from center increase the clamping force on the clutch disc. The QSB3.3T generates 300+ lbs/ft of torque at only 1400 RPM. I may be worng, but these are my thoughts.........just my thoughts. I haven't read this anywhere are performed any testing.

I don't know anything about the Zoom clutch. It is pricey! My philosophy on cluches has always been: For increased holding power, first increase clutch diamater within the OEM design. If this isn't adequate, then resort to the more exotic materials. If this doesn't work, try the usually more expensive dual disc design if available. According to Luk the 5.2L Dakota 05-072 RepSet is rated at 388 lbs/ft. This seems adequate for my application. It costs ~$170 shipped.

What "Northern site"?

http://www.lukclutch.com/

I bought my clutch from an eBay vendor.

My QSB3.3TAA did NOT come with an intercooler. I believe for a Wrangler, you'll need a tall narrow intercooler. On www.4btswaps.com , at least one guy has successfully used the intercooler from a 4BTAA equipped Chevy P30 step van in a Wrangler. I'm hoping to use a cut-down intercooler from a 2006 Dodge Ram in my ZJ. I have purchased one of these intercoolers and believe I can make it fit by cutting the bottom 6 rows off of the core and welding the bottom of the tanks closed.

And again SORRY !! I am trying to absorb 49 pages or 490 posts of information in less than 3 days!!! I was thinking ( mistakenly ) that I read somewhere that the QSB 3.3 came with intercooler !!

Thanks for clearing that up !!!

I've been thinking about uploading my spreadsheet to Flickr and decided that I would prefer not doing that at this time. If you PM me with your email address, I'll send it to you via email.

Macet,
Are you still looking for a 231 slip yoke eliminator? I just bought mine from Advanced Adapters. $199 shipped and no Chinese components.

The HPCR injector pump is designed to pull directly from the tank. I'll be using a 1/2" fuel line for added insurance.

Yeah. That’s the best price I have seen. I am trying to save enough cash so I can buy a suspension lift (probably 3"), slip yoke eliminator and drive shaft. I would like to do it all together so I will not have to buy another drive shaft down the road.

The case I am running now leaks terrible usually fill it up once a week. I have replaced the seal but I think the shackle lift is pulling the yoke out more causing the leak.

How do you plan on sizing your drive shaft?

I have a flanged type SYE (RE hack'n tap) in my 1998 4.0L/auto Cherokee with 5" lift. I am running a Cherokee front driveshaft in the rear. The length is near perfect.

I'm hoping to do similar in the Grand Cherokee. Here is a link to Spicer Double Cardan driveshaft application catalog. I hope I can find an OEM shaft to fit.

http://shaftmasters.com/store/media/CV%20Shafts.pdf

I plan to mount the AX15 in the stock location using a factory mount. A factory ZJ front AX15/NP231 driveshaft should be the correct length for the front. For the rear, after the engine/tranny/transfercase are mounted, the lift is installed and the pinion is pointed at the transfercase yoke ( minus 1-2 degrees), measure driveshaft length according to:

I have a 1996 Ford T-Bird 4.6L OEM fan that I plan to use. It fits the ZJ radiator nearly perfectly. You may want to consider the 1990 (1988-1995?) Ford Taurus 3.8L OEM fan for your wrangler. These fans move a lot more air than the aftermarket fans. Used Taurus fans can be had for a reasonable cost.

I would just like to say "Kudos" to all you who have or can do this!

I still think one of the jelly bean Fords would be cool with a 4 cyl Diesel.

I just know it will never be me.
