I apologize for my lack of understanding, but I still don't quite understand the need for the bushings at the 4:00 & 7:00 positions. You stated "With the V6 the bolts are installed from the front of the tranny". If I understand this correctly, these bolts are installed from the engine side of the bellhousing? Were these bolt holes threaded? I'm thinking that if the bolts used nuts, the bellhousing would be cast/machined with a surface for the nut to seat against. In this case, no bushing or spot facing would be necessary for the bolt head. Correct? Or am I misunderstanding you?

Mike
The housing was threaded. If you were to insert a long 3/8 bolt through you may have roughly 1/8" clearance between the shaft of the bolt and the housing. In order to fit the head I just about had to jam it in, and then it was crooked. The bushings were around 3/4" and I had to trim some of the bushings and a little of the housing to get a straight shot for the bolts. I am happy with results. I only have 100$ invested. If you have a Dakota or a 94-95 Jeep Wrangler the clutch slave will bolt right up.

Yeah I am working on adding A/C. Getting the double crank pulley and putting it on a separate belt seemed like the best idea to me. It has been pretty cold here in Chicago to but if I don't get started now it will be 90deg out before I know it

Cherokee repower

Hey guys,
I saw this forum about a year ago and it has just taken off since then. I just caught up reading about 15 pages of great info. Anyway I recently picked up a N/A 3.3 for $300.00 from work. It was a warranty replacement and needs some minor work. I plan on putting it in a late 90's Cherokee within the next few months. Propane injection and SVO are also possibly in the plans. I have access to tons of specs on these engines, including torque and hp curves from the engineering dept. at work, so if anybody needs anything specific, I can email them to you. I don't want to post the engineering manual online because it is all labeled "Do Not Copy" and dont want to put myself or my employer in an awkward position. Excited to get going and sharing any info that can help out anybody else.

Thanks TDIwyse for getting this all going

Welcome!!

Where are you located? And what business. I work in product engineering at CDC/CNS in Rocky Mount NC. $300 that's great!!! For me if the cost of the engine was lower this project would be a breeze. I had to swallow hard, but I think it will be worth it. I would really like to learn about propane injection. What is your input on the lubricity filters used for the military, could they be used for biodiesel?

I'm in Washington, about 2 hours North of Seattle. I'm not an engineer by trade, but our business is primarily manufacturing berry and grape harvesters. We use the 3.3 to power Blueberrry and Raspberry harvesters with hydraulic functions and Hydrostatic drives. I don't really know anything about lubricity filters, other than Fleetguard is now making them for civilian applications now. The reason for the interest in propane is just for some extra power when needed, since I wont have the benefit of a turbo. I have a turbo that I might add and only use about 5 lbs boost just to increase efficiency, but without the need to the switch fuel pump and injectors.

welcome to the forum panner79. I am not an expert, but I don't think you'll get much benefit from propane inject on a non-turbo'd engine. This is from past reading on my part and not from experience. Maybe someone else has had experience. It maybe possible to turbo the engine. What year cherokee do you plan convert'in? I have a 1990 with a 5 speed Ax-15 manual tranny. I am planning to install at the end of the month. I've got other home improvement projects to complete first.

Dude, you've got to get a digital camera.......for our sake. Ebay has used older model digital cameras cheap!

You have done a tremendous job of explaining your project thus far. In fact, I can almost see images of your modified trans tunnel / floorpan, notched-out front crossmember and cylindrical flywheel adapter in my head. But......pictures are worth thousands of words or in our case possibly thousands of dollars in trial and error.

I'm aware of the problems with propane in non-turbo engines and only plan to install it if I do end up adding a turbo. I'd like to go the route of Macet with the 3.9 bellhousing, but still curious if the pressure plate and clutch was also used from the 3.9 and what PC adapter was used, the 727A or C. I also have a 4cyl. perkins that would work well for an install if anyone is interested. It is roughly 65hp stock and it needs a light rebuild ie.. rings bearings, for $500. It should have SAE bellhousing and adapted with a PC housing.

I just bought a b3.3T this week. Actually I got two but one is not a complete engine.

I have the proper bellhousing adapter for the PC kit but my oil pans are both front sump. If they're like the 4bts they will just bolt on the other way but I'm guessing I'll need a different pickup. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm either putting the engine in a TJ or an explorer. Right now I'm leaning towards TJ but im a little weary of air noise and possible top leaks.

Hey Mook
Funny seeing you here. I'm now leaning toward the B3.3T, also.

I had my oil pan off to modify it to fit the sonoma crossmember. Mooktank you should just be able to rotate the pan and pickup.

I am going to use the 3.9 flywheel. Jeep clutch disk and pressure plate both Dakota/Jeep use 10.4" 10 spine 1.125 hub clutch. I am going to machine a bushing for the pilot to accept the 1" pilot. I think the 4.0 may have the bushing pressed into its crank. I didn't remove mine because I sold the engine. It may be the correct dimensions.

Using PC # 26-02003 Cone and 26-02004 adapter ring

Someone private messaged me about the lift pump I'm using. I checked the thread and I did talk about the pump but didn't find where I posted the part number. I'm using a Master E8012S self regulated pump that's up in the engine bay. You can see it here:

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...goryCode=3339K

It's worked great for almost 2 yrs and has seen everything from nearly straight biodiesel to winter blended D2. I also carry a spare that's ready to be inserted and plugged into the 12V connections in case the one in the engine bay dies.

CPL Numbers

Can any of you guys post your B3.3T CPL numbers? They may help me locate an engine.

Thanks,
Mike
