Wastegated housing or external wategate?
I really like my 16cm, but am I better off getting a wategated housing for my H1C or going with an external wategate?

I'm very sure,we have a truck with one as a top turbo....It would choke to death as a bottom turbo!!! You said it came on a 500 horse diesel??? Are you sure it's not a gt42 instead of a gt35?????

The 76 is not a reference to the inducer. It is soley a reference to the exducer. A GT3576 comes on a DD S30G. Its only a 4L engine and rated 235hp. No way will that turbo support and sustain 500hp in a single setup on a big Diesel for any extended period. The EGT's would go out of the roof, plus the small shaft design would snap in a heartbeat. We can barely keep GT42's alive in extreme conditions and they use a shaft that is almost .1" larger.
Also keep in mind exducer dictates the pressure the compressor wheel can sustain, not the amount of air it can move.
this may help explain a little....

He hit the nail on the head!! A GT35r is a great little turbo for a 2.0 liter gas motor and will make 600 and spool extremely well,But the inducer size of that turbo is only a 61mm and 76mm on the exducer and is way to small on the exhaust side for a 5.9 liter engine!!!!!! Thanks JZ for clearing that up!!!!
Ill 2nd what wannadiesel said. He hit the nail on the head. After running my 16cm housing for a while(couple years) I modded my 12cm and put it back on. All I can say is that the 16cm is now back on the truck...I have an 18.5cm off a 1st gen laying around too. If I ever get that much fuel I may just go ahead, and put the 18.5 on it(only if I feel I need it, and can spool it fine). Here is the thread I made.
