Red face Wategate?

What is the difference between a internal and external wastegate and which one is better? Also is there any diagrams that show how to instal a wategate like one that is on a 12cm housing?
Thanks

An internal wastegate is contained in the turbine housing. It's just a valve that lets exhaust pass from before the turbine into the downpipe. An external wastegate is mounted on the manifold and has a pipe running to the downpipe (or just dumps the exhaust under the hood). An internal wastegate is simple, but they don't flow as much. An external wastegate requires more plumbing, but it can flow more exhaust (not typically important on a diesel).

If you install a 12 or 14 cm wastegated housing and hook the wastegate actuator to a source of boost, you have installed a wastegate.

External wastegates are more common on gassers and twinned CTD's.

I think I understand. What turbos have and internal wastegate? I noticed that you have a 14cm w/g housing how did you plumb the w/g lines?
Thanks I just don't want to screw something up

The HX-35W and and WH1C have internal wastegates from the factory.

I put a tee in the boost port in the head and ran a section of steel brake line under the engine. Short pieces of high pressure fuel hoses go from the tee to the line and from the line to the actuator.

Are there any kits you can buy to hook one up, or is it mainly rigging up your own system? Also when you run a boost guage you can tap it in the same system for your w/g line? I'm new to diesels and I'm still learning?
I hope this isn't too confusing.

Its very easy to rig up your own system with basic parts from hardware stores. Just make sure the tubing can withstand the pressure (stiffer). Yes, a boost guage uses the same line as the wastegate.

So the line in the upper right goes to the actuator and the line going towards the bottom is for what? I know that line sticking out is the end is the boost guage probe. Also how do you get the guage lines through the firewall?
Thanks Ben

As fare as getting them thru the fire wall i got a 6" pease of a brake or fuel line and cut one end on a 30*eash, angle and push it thru a rubber groment in the fire wall. put the wire's,line or what ever in the metal tube and the remove the tube! wolaa!!!the wires or thru the fire wall.
the fuel line works good for a small wire while the modifyed piece of fuel line work better when you trying to put several wire thru....like when you install a pyro wiring thru the fire wall,..for an example!

The line on the uper right goes to the water/meth controller. The line going straight down goes to the wastegate actuator.
