Lightbulb Auto neutral button?

Is it possible to put in a button on the floor that we guys with autos could use to hit shift in two neutral shift from 4Hi to 2wd and then let the switch go and drop back in to gear???

the reason I am asking this is I saw someone else with a manual hit the clutch switch from 4hi to 2wd and he was running 14.5 on the 1/4 mile. is this possible or is there no reason to launch in 4hi then swap to 2wd

I dont see any reason to pull it out of 4hi in the 1/4, even if you throw the shifter back into 2hi it wont shift outta 4wd until you take the load off of it by going into neutral like you said, but that would take way too long and kill your 1/4 mile time anyway.

well now you have me thinkin, I read that and now I am gonna go try and pull the t-case shifter out 4wd with a load on it and see if it actually disengages before the load is taken away.

well you can shift from 4hi to 2hi BUT the transfer will not disengage until the load is taken away, even though the shifter is in the 2hi position. at least this was true while turning to put a load on the t-case, im not sure if going in a straight line on the dragstrip will put enough of a load to keep it engaged?

I believe you have to be all the way off of the load (off the go pedal) for it to shift back to 4x2. I suppose if you had a lockup switch for the front, that might disengage, but I am still not sure there is much point to shifting out of 4x4 in the 1/4 mile. It shouldnt be any more strain on anything, as you are going in a straight line (I hope)... The only thing you gain is not spinning the front axle... You could try some wider back tires, or get some dually adapters and wheels to run at the drag strip..... Just some other ideas....

I thought that it still might stay engaged so could you eater jest take your foot off the gas for a quick second or is it possible to put like a manual clutch (neutral button) on the floor to hit jest long enough to take the pressure off it so I switches out

Right and that’s why I was wondering if you could put like a manual clutch in (a button that would shift in to neutral) so that you could hit it and it would take pressure off it jest long enough to shift in two 2wd
