Snow on the way
Environment Canada just issued a heavy snowfall warning for southern Alberta over the next 48 hrs. Worst snowfall (25cm) down by Okotoks and Claresholm. Am I the only one who is sick of this? I swear have put 100km on the snowplow truck this winter. It is only used to plow my 500ft driveway and the neighbors' 800ft driveway.

I know we need the moisture but this has been the most snow in 10 yrs. My main drift, on the north side of the yard is 7ft tall at the peak, 40ft wide and 800ft long. That bugger is going to be here for a while. Down here in Dalemead (between Langdon and Carseland) we got clobbered by that storm back on Jan 9 and we have never really recovered. I have a lot of melting to deal with before the hay comes up and the veggies go in. You couldn't stand on my driveway between house and barn until spring melt is over. If I have to get my truck to the barn over the next few weeks, I am in trouble. It would take a helicopter to get it out of that mud.
Makes 2 of us. I live on an acreage south of Bragg Creek on the edge of Kananaskis. I also have about a 500m driveway. The area is all trees where I am so I don't have to deal with the blowning snow. So far I have had about 5-6 feet total this year and the year ain't over. My snow banks are not as high as 2 years ago (yet), but there is still at least 2 months left in our snow season.
Last year our last snow was June 15.
I am done with it though.

I was up Airdire way a week ago and I couldn't believe the difference in the snowpack up there versus down here. Your fields were most of the way bare. Down here (all of 30 mins away) our fields still had at least a foot of snow where there were no drifts. Where there are drifts, it is still stupid deep. Things are going to be pretty wet around here for a while as this stuff all melts. Hopefully we get a good hay crop this year.
Tons of snow out here too (NE of Drumheller). The county roads are down to single lanes in spots with banks just about as high as the roof of your truck. 1 more good blizzard and we will be snowbound until they get the cats out.
I shudder to think how long road bans will last this year.

Mom/dad-- 100KM Northwest of the Peace River area have about 4-5 feet piled high---way more than last year as the 250,00 gallon dug-out was down 6-7 feet in Sept.Dad had to pump water from the spare one to top up for winter---they need the moisture.3 years ago i could not drive my quad across the forested 1/4 as it was to wet in the SKEGG but last year it was dry on top and quads made it though mostly in 2 wheel drive---did'nt even get dirty that week.DW
Airdrie missed most of the big storms that came through this winter. I like driving in the snow, so I was kind of disappointed. Up at Syncrude, it was snowing last night, really big flakes too. Got about 2" between lunch and end of shift.

I've used it a bunch already this winter hauling folks out of snowbanks and ditches. looks like more happy fun time.
