Help me sniff out a NV5600 6 speed!
Help me sniff out a NV5600 6 speed!
I think mine finally gave up on me. Will not go into 3rd no matter what I do. Engine off, on, clucth in or out. Like it hits a brick wall. From the little bit of research did it sounds like 3rd gear is where you main syncro's are. No warning at all. Tranny just said that I am done with 3rd gear. Way over 400,000 kms on it anyways.
Found one on kijijji for $3,000 and another with 140,000 kms on kijijji for $2,100 from an auto wrecker. Got a call into NADP for a complete new rebuild. Will see if anyone here has any leads. 512,000 + kms on the old blue windbag and just wondering how much more I want to spend to keep it on the road!

Could look into a G56 as well. Not sure if they are any more plentiful than the NV5600. Should be a simple swap. I know they don't go for much cheaper. I picked mine up for $1600, but I haven't seen any other that cheap since then.
I've been looking for a good spare used 2wd NV5600 for years. No way I could find anything in Western Cda for a decent price.
I did find several in the US but the 350 pound shipping weight always killed the deal.
The trans needs to be put on a pallet, truck/freight shipped to Montana Shipping Outlet then time/cost to go pick it up.
Shipping the pallet to Northern BC/AB would further hinder a US deal.
Unfortunately the NV5600 is not an easy trans to dismantle and have a look.
You could try to pull the PTO covers off and look inside, check the bottom for debris.
The other option would be to try to find an experienced NV5600 trans mechanic or shop in Northern BC/AB.
Good luck...

Tate,
I already have a new southbend clutch for a NV5600 and the hydraulics. Just was hoping someone on here would say I have one in my garage with 25,000 kms for $500 and if you bring some beer I will help you install! HAHAHA. Ya never know till you ask right. But looks like I might be rolling the dice with an autowrecker.

John, I'm suprised that you couldn't find a NV5600, a few weeks ago I saw on Kijji two NV5600's for $2500 (together). I was looking for a cheap transmission for my 02 truck. I'm at a similar point with my old truck, its has tons of miles on it. If the transmission died last year prior to me dumping a bunch cash into the old girl, I probably would have parted out the old truck.
I even had a bunch of decent offers for the old girl.
As far as I know the NV5600 and NV4500 clutches work only on the NV transmissions.
No sure on the question but the G56 has its own different clutch than the NV stuff. Not sure on the hydraulics.
Keep us posted buddy.

We will see if I got lucky. Found a nv5600 locally for 1200. That included a transfer case. Just online with local FSJ classifieds. Supposed to be out of a 2002 3500 that was salvaged with 150,000 kms. Who knows!
