Question 96 auto trans cooler lines

I recently installed new fuel and brake lines. Now I see a rusted and dripping cooler line that goes from the engine/ATF cooler to the front air ATF cooler.
On my 96 it has originally a EFI/quick disconnect at both ends. I found the Dorman 624-982 looks to be almost the correct looking line and there is no other offering.
My problem is that the new line has a EFI/quick disconnect at the front of the truck at the air cooler end yet on the engine intercooler end the dorman part has a flared tubing with the nut.
Has dorman "rationalized" the product due to later trucks having gone to a flared fitting??????
The question I pose is for some one that has been in the engine intercooler end and knows what is the thread for the adaptor...IS IT a removeable fitting?
I still drive it and need to do the swap out job in one session and would like to have the right part in hand....

Thanks

Your truck, being a 96, may have had the recall done on the trans cooler lines. My dad's 94 had this and when his dealer did the re-fit, the line plastic connectors were replaced with metal ones, but I would imagine they were of the same thread pitch.

You may find tech info on the TSB & Recall page. The tab is at the top right hand side under the main graphic above...

Unfortunately the recall was only for gasser trucks.
I lucked out and the dealer did the recall on mine accidently without even asking when it was in for another recall.

Many people replace all the lines with hose. Much better than the plastic disconnect type that are a disaster whaiting to happen.
Fitting sizes and more info> Replace auto tranny lines with hose

I had that disaster happen to me on top of Telluride, CO in 2000. I replaced the plastic quick-disconnect tranny lines with the upgraded lines then available, as I recall, for 1999 and newer. Cost me $250 in a tow bill to get down off that mountain.

An auto tranny is pretty useless when 12+ quarts spray out underneath your engine compartment when one of those plastic connectors melts.

ATF lines

Well RW thanks, that might make sense why they (dodge/dorman) changed from a EFI/QD fitting to the flare metal tube fitting...if that fitting is right next to the exhaust and turbo and melts. I can see from under the truck on my lift that the original is a plastic retention clip and not a stainless metal one.
That confirms I don't want rubber hose.
Now if I only knew what the fitting threads were going into the engine/atf intercooler log.
Can anyone confirm it is a screw in fitting... american pipe or metric???

If im correct, they r 3/8 npt. I replaced all the lines with 1/2" steel. And the fittings with high pressure fittings. A bit of a Job to get them Bent rite, but i wont get stranded with a trail of tranny fluid on the road. Gene

Hose will work in some areas, i chose to use steel.
