Who on earth is going to build the torsion bars for you? The mid-70's wagons and cop cars had some XHD bars, (1.05" or so), but even a full power-accessory 440 gives up significant weight to a 12V.

Same for steering, how's that trailing link design going to work with that engine in the way?

Setting the engine back so the oil pan is behind the linkage, will still have to section the oil pan/pickup, but it should be fine. We are boxing the front subframe and building subframe connectors to help distribute the twist.

I plan on bagging the car to get the look and ride quality that I want.

Super cool project!! I have a 68 Chrysler Town and Country wagon, same basic car. I'm now seriously considering this as a future project.

To answer Rednax question on torsion bars, there are a couple companies that build HUGE torsion bars, Just suspension, Firm feel etc. So the bars should be the least of his concerns...

 

Thanks man! I have updated the blog with a ton of pics. FIRM FEEL hooked me up with some bigarse T-Bars, Ply bushings, forged pins,etc. I also boxed my own LCAs. All the fab is done now, we are starting to piece stuff back together.

(Yeah, one of the several things you learned from me over on the Dry Dock . . I'd still call it a concern [not to be contentious] as Ma Mopar never put the Hemi in a C-Body, much less anything this heavy. So it's new territory in my experience).

THe front subframe and fit are impressive. Any shots of chassis reinforcement? Why Mustang II R&P (does it really have the beef?)

 

So I think the rack would have handled it fine, but the Mustang II simply doesn't have enough throw to turn the car sufficiently. Its fine on the open road (around the block at least) but it sucks in the parking lot. So Flaming River just released an XL series rack that has 2 full inches of additional travel in each direction that should be the ticket. Definitely not cheap, but I gotta be able to dock this barge in a parking lot.

 

This projet geeks me up. Can't wait to see it smoking them down the highway!
