project 2wd 12v drag truck

ok guys i have got a 1995 2 wheel drive regular cab long bed truck that i am going to be around 700 horse power by the time i am done tinkering with it..... i was wondering what you guys would suggest on getting traction with that much horse? i am trying to stay on a budget plan but i know budget and race truck dont go in the same sentance but im trying any suggestions? i was wondering if just a locker and some slicks would do the trick or would i have to tub and shorten the rear end and all that? would love some good advice! thanks guys also twins or big single turbo what would be best for a once in awhile street truck but mainly drag truck?

Man, I couldn't imagine 700 in that. I have a '95 2wd regcab with 500hp, and I can't keep that truck straight!

I got my Detroit Locker from Randy's Ring and Pinion. I think it was 550-575, but it's been a few years now, can remember exactly.
The Detroit is a direct drop-in into the Dana 70 which is what that automatic truck will have.
You can use that same Detroit in a Dana 80, but all you do is drill out the ring bolt holes to the same size as the D80 holes, which I believe is 1/2".

A good 4 link setup will do wonders for you. If you are spending the money to get 700+ out of the engine and building the driveline, you can afford to have someone 4 link it for you.

You could look into some caltrac's and setup the rear with a locker. It would help but a 4-link would be your best bet. And twin's would probably be better suited for a drag truck. Unless you used some spray to get the turbo to light.

RODP99 your sig cracks me up.

We race with a guy with a 2wd 24valve that is just over 600hp, all he has done for traction is traction bars, locker and 31x13.50 slicks, the tires stick out and look a lil different but he hooks great. 1.70 60's if i am not mistaken

You can do leaves for a while, but if you do your homework on 4 links, it'll hook better than leaves ever would.

91 Ranger, enjoy it while it's there. New VP is on it's way from Utah... I'm going crazy driving my replacement.

Twins will be better for street driving, a big single will be better for traction in a 2wd. That lag off the line will help control traction at launch.

big blue i got a good deal on the 2 wheel drive i bought it about a month ago and got it for 3900 dollars and it has a rebuild tranny and new tires with 116800 miles on it when i bought it the paint is coming off and there is a couple good dings in the front fender and door but good running motor and trans which is what i care about mostly and outofsight thats what i am taking about getting traction with some big slicks and traction bars i got a screaming deal on most of my performance parts from friends that had parts laying around or going a dif. route thats why i am going to be about that horse power and on a cheap budget! thats why im seeing my options with traction with a light 2 wheel drive truck in diesel power there is a few trucks that where running in 2 wheel drive with just slicks anyone know what they all have done any of them? whats a good set of traction bars run?

outofsight i also noticed in your sig that you have an ats trans with a co pilot do you use that to race? i have a ats trans in my 98 and a commander and have used it at the track and everyone i talk to around here has hinted to me to ditch the commander and run just a lockup switch to race any ideas on if that would help my 1/4 time out or not?

I have been looking for a high mile well dented and smashed in cheap 2wd 12 valve for a fun little garage project. I don't get my first garage till mid Nov but after that I'll really be lookin for a sweet deal like 3900.
