Factory remote starter

I picked up my new truck this afternoon and got everything programed and working but the factory remote starter. It will start the truck and run for about 5 seconds then shut down. Message says remote starter disabled. Start vehicle to reset. I have looked in the manual and the DVD but there doesn't seem to be any settings. Have I missed something or do I have a problem with the remote starter?

That should not be happening. Are you throwing any DTC's?

I think it has to be programmed from the dealership. Mine did not work when I bought my truck, but as soon as I downloaded H&S program with my deletes it works all of a sudden. I had hit it in my pocket and my truck lights where on and I looked at it and was wondering why till I walked up on it and it was running from the remote start working.

Going out on a limb here; I experienced the same thing when my low fuel warning came on. What is your fuel level? Evidently on low fuel the remote start will start but then shut down.

That's good to know about the low fuel but fuel is about 3/4 of a tank and no DTC's, I'll have a look in the morning and if I don't find anything it's back to the dealer. I wanted to be certain I didn't miss a setting or something. Thanks for the input.

Just to follow up, the truck ended up throwing some codes a whole whack of them, as the batteries weren't fully charged when I picked the truck up from the dealer. I only had a short trip home and parked it in the drive. It was fairly cold out so the grid heaters must have pulled down the voltage causing the remote to shut down the engine. The voltage looked ok before each manual start but I guess the voltage did eventually get down low enough to throw codes. I also discovered that you can't "hop out" and take the fob with you, you have to shut down and remote start it. It's sitting on the battery charger now.

I have had a family friend with the same issue. It became more inconsistent and finally required a module replacement in the Sentry security system. Keep an eye on it.

what you can do is pull the secret key out of the end of the fob while running. Then hit lock doors, open driver door and press down on the driver lock post. This will keep the truck locked and engine running and allow you to get back in with the secret key.

I realize you could do that but it defeats the anti theft system, someone could break the glass and away they go. It's a feature I use all the time on my other vehicles when it's really cold or hot.
