Upgrade from 3rd to 4th gen
Dealer offered me 18 k for my 06 Ram with 135k on it. How are the 4th gens holding up. I upgraded most of the common problems with the 3rd gens and don't want to start over again. I have been looking at the Tradesman's for around 50k. Sticker shock.

On June 1st I sold my 2005 and took delivery of my 2015. Only have 6500 miles on it so far, other than the fuel milage being about 2-3 mpg worse I wouldn't go back. I like it alot more than the 05, which I liked alot.

We traded our 07 2500 a year ago. We tow a heavy 5er and decided the 2500 was just not enough. We got a '15 3500 SRW which does a great job. We really like the new truck and have enjoyed it much. We would not go back.

The people that like their new trucks have either not had any problems yet or they have already deleted and lost their warranty. Wait until you have to buy a new factory 8.4 radio because there is nothing else you can buy ... just to control the HVAC and your trailer brakes, along with back up cam, nav and bluetooth. How about an electrically controlled clutch fan and water pump, never mind about the lack of parts and non availability for that Aisin you thought would give no problems, at least the transmission pan has a drain plug unlike the 68RFE. The junk brake controller and toy 5000lb hitch that came on the 2011 3500 tow package.
I haven't even talked about the emission problems and cleaning the DPF and intake, I'm talking DEF and non def trucks. Fuel filter (both of them) costs and try changing your oil and filter on a 2013 and up. Then there's the wire gauge problem, Dodge has cheaped out again to save a few cents and cause problems for owners. Note to Dodge... not everything needs a computer and relays to control it, a good quality switch and a decent gauge wire will do just fine. I could go on but those are a few reasons I wouldn't buy another new truck. I'm thinking of picking up a 2001 similar to my last one just to keep as a back up.

They have been building these 4th gen trucks for 8 yrs now and I think they should be better than my 06. I had alot of issues with my 06. Ball Joints, Transmission, Computer etc.
I have owned about 6 different trucks. Never put as much money into a truck than my 06.I needed to dump another 3 to 5 g's into it so I got rid of it.

Having had a 2nd and 3rd Gen. now a 4th Gen. I myself wouldn't go back. We stepped up to a 3500 Laramie SRW LB, previous 2nd and 3rd Gens. were 2500s. DW wanted to step up the size of the 5TH wheel, so 5TH wheel hitch weight and payload capacity of the 2500 wasn't going to get it. This past May a whole new ball game started, LOVE IT...
Mileage is a moot point if you are towing heavy. (Enjoy the ride).

having gone from a 01 to a 2014 I would never go back. The urea trucks seem to have less emissions up from witch is awesome they don't get clogged like the non urea trucks. My 14 is a beast out of the box we tow heavy and often be it cattle or horses, I've idled around all winter long feeding cattle and our saddle horses and have had 0 problems, I think it did a full regeneration twice since October and with the silent regeneration you'll never even notice these trucks in regen. The urea cost 20 bucks and goes for thousands of miles per 4 gallons tank, and not to mention the front end is so much stout than my 01.

I went 3rd gen - 4th gen- 3rd gen. Pluses and minuses to both (but mostly pluses of course). The downside of keeping your current truck is it will start to nickle and dime you to death if it hasn't already. Nothing against the manufacturer, it's just an age thing- stuff wears out. At least the first 75k-100k miles of a new 2015 would be free of surprising and ugly repair costs. If your truck is paid-off I'd keep and buy a new one. Or actually, I wouldn't get a new one- look for a slightly used one a year or two old with around 20k miles on it and save $10k or so.

Well I'm thinking about trading to a new one... At present have a 2007.5 CC 4x4 dually with 132k mi and in very good condition (new turbo at 109k mi), but I can get a fair deal on a new 16 Laramie dually, so tempted to do the deal.....It would be nice to have another 100k warranty to get me thru clear to the end - lol!
