Is synthetic oil worth it without deletes?

Hey all -

I come from a 2nd gen truck and performed most all of my maintenance. I used to use Delo 400 5w40 synthetic in that truck with 10,000 Km oil change intervals. I used fleetgaurd filters.

I am coming up to an oil change soon on my new 2011. It isn't deleted. Is synthetic worth it given the shorter change intervals? Or is a normal 5w40 just fine?

Anyone have fleetgaurd oil filter numbers handy for a 2011?

Also, will my 2011 Longhorn tell me when the oil needs to be changed, or should I go by mileage intervals?

Thanks in advance!

Oil filter is the same one but comes out from underneath, watch the wires going to the compressor, fuel filter is different. We read the odd post every now and then of someone driving their truck with no oil in it and major damage happens, because synthetic oil protects way better than dino I always wonder what if they had been using synthetic oil. PLUS if you apply for the FREE paper version of the owners manual it states in there that if you do not use 5W40 synthetic oil below -18C engine damage will occur. Not deleted you may get oil change messages at 1500km with severe oil dilution based on the amount and type of driving you do and if an auto or manual trans, the manual trans seems way worse.

****! I guess I shouldn't have given away my extra filters when I sold the 2nd gen! Oh well.

Anyone have a part number for the fleetgaurd stratapore (the filter better suited for synthetic)?

Also, I think I'll go ahead and continue using the gallons of Delo 400 5/40 synthetic.
