Service 4WD Message

While on a long trip recently and on hot (104 deg) and rough roads, a message popped up saying the 4WD needed service. A while passed and it went away and later came back on for a while and went away. I assumed it may have been some sort of electrical issue, but has not reappeared. I have less than 30k on the truck and need to replace fluids soon, but this has me puzzled. Anyone have a clue?

Unfortunately a few have reported the 4x4 system has an issues and a 4x4 shift motor seems to fix it. The hard part is to get it to reproduce itself for the dealer.

I would climb under there and look at the connectors for it. Might be loose or dirty.

I had something similar happen to my 2017 while towing in GA last summer. The light came on with a little drag on the steering wheel lasting less than 30 seconds and then went away.

I went for the 30000mi service, told them what happened and they did "T79 Safety Recall - Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (Recall CSN 1) Program TCM per Recall Procedure".

Maybe you should ask the dealer?

I had the T79 recall done a month before this issue turned up. I will check the connections. Otherwise I will wait to see if the issue returns. Thanks for the input.

I have had the same issue with my 2016 3500. Took it to the dealer and of course could not find an issue.
