Oil filter replacement

Is there an easier way to do it without removing airbox hose all the way down to turbo on a 2015? Changed the oil today since i didn't know how long it had been since it's been changed. it had 31,000 on it when i got it. This is what i found when i got to the filter finally.

I knew it felt loose when i turned it and was leaking, Do these quickie oil places even hire sane people. Do they even check to see if old gasket is stuck to filter holder, apparently not. Never heard of service champs. I also use nothing but fleetguard filters.

after seeing this i'm not sure they even used diesel oil. this is the reason i ALWAYS change my own oil or it waits till i can. Also put the fumoto valve on while plug was out. i've had one of these on the old Dodge for 17 years with no problems.

The guy that does the underside of the vehicle in most of the oil changes including Dealerships is the one with the least amount of experience as a general rule....though of course there are exceptions.

Like you I do everything I possibly can because NOBODY cares as much about your vehicle as YOU do.

On your truck you can take the filter off and pull thru the wheel well. There’s no access from below.
check ‘Geno’s garage’ for their filter cap that reduces spilling from pulling out a used/full filter thru the opening. Fill new filter, lube o-ring and install filter cap to get back into opening.
I had a similar experience with lube shop. Old gasket was bunched up around top of old filter when I Removed it!
Always make sure the old gasket/large o-ring is accounted for.

Thanks, I looked at the fender well and seen the opening. it has a two inch lift on the front so it will be easier to get to. I will also buy the filter wrench and top from genos.

Switch to 100% synthetic oil and an extended life filter then change it once a year.

+1 on that, Walmart has the OEM filters for $13 bucks and Shell T5 15w40 for $40, pull the intake off to get to the filter. Once a year or every 10k whatever comes first

I have a Cummins store close to me, I get the filters for 10 bucks each. Probably stay with Delvac, been using it in everything with no problems. don't think it will be that hard to do. I go 4000 miles on the Delvac. 10,000 miles would make me nervous.lol Besides I am retired and need something to do sometimes.

Nobody but me ever touches my truck. Non negotiable.

After breaking the filter loose, slip a plastic shopping bag around it and hold up the handles with one hand and unscrew with the other. First time will feel odd and slow but you'll get it. The filter drops in the bag and doesn't make a mess. Make sure there are no holes in the bag.

As much as I like those quick drain valves, because of the length of the threads there is still a half quart of dirty oil remaining in the oil pan after draining.
