New Synthetic Oil for Diesels
We had a rep. from Schaeffers specialized lubricants come into the plant I work at and do a demonstration of their products. One intreaguing thing I found out talking with him afterwards was their new synthetic oil developed especially for the new diesels with EGR and DPF systems.
I was wondering if anyone is using them in their trucks yet. I am getting a price for 12 quarts to compare to the Shell Rotella T that I use now. But if it does what they claim it would be worth it. The web site is listed here, check it out for yourself and let me know your thoughts.

I took a looked at their 9000 series oil and it is recommended for extended drain oil changes. However it doesn't say whether or not you have to do an oil analysis to go the extra miles. Amsoil who also sell an extended drain oil specifically say for our 6.7 diesel engine to change at the dealer specified intervals due to oil dilution from the fuel, UNLESS you do an oil analysis. My thinking is the only benefit from synthetic oil in the 6.7 without doing the deletes is for cold weather operation. I will still run 5W40 100% synthetic oil but change from the expensive EA080 to the WIX filter which is just as good but less than half the cost, then just change at the dealer specified intervals.

i would not even come close to doing extended drain intervals unless you do oil samples. a $20 kit is cheaper than doing $16k worth of damage and having to eat the bill because you have no oil change records (dealer will ask for oil change records and they are looking for 5k-7.5k mile intervals and can & will deny warranty if you can't prove it)
I can have the oil analysis done for free due to my connections at work. Why wait for the 25000 miles? Break in? I havn't decided to go to this oil yet or not, wanted to see what everyone had to say on the forum first.

With a 6.7 truck I would just stick with Valvaline Premium blue due to fuel dilution of the oil. Amsoil does not recommend extended drain intervals on the 6.7 and that is the only way you can save money due to the extra cost of the oil.

Right, No motor will break in well if you run synthetic oil. my 04 manule even said "IF" you are going to run synthetic oil DO NOT USE synthetic oil till 25,000 miles. I really see no need for it anyway unless maybe you plan to keep the truck for over 500,000 miles???

I haven't been able to reach 4,400 miles yet before the evic message tells me it's time. So now I just change the oil every 4K. Does anyone if it is possible to reset the evic before it activates or do you have to reset it only after the message activates?
I had switched over to Synthetic oil in my last truck then extended the oil changes to 7K. But not so with these new trucks. I also keep good records and receipts for my oil changes.

I"ve ran
Shell rotella
Amsoil
Castrol
Lucas
Valvoline
Chevron Delo
Royal Purple
Most of these thru the same truck swapping back and forth and buying whats on sale. Went to Syn than back to dino then back to syn then back to dino...
Guess what? Not a single oil related problem in over 1,000,000 miles on 3 trucks.
Change you oil regularly and it don't matter what you use.

However, I do agree with u in that the eao is expensive to be changing at dealer specified intervals...
