Makin Oil
Makin Oil
Is your 4th.gen truck making oil? My last 2 oil changes I have been putting only 10qts in my truck. This brings the oil level to the midway point on the safe zone on the dip stick. Problem solved!! Has anyone else tried this?

Yes fuel is still getting in but now it doesn't put the oil level over the safe zone mark.

it may not be, but now your concentration of fuel will be higher..same fuel, less oil...
mine would go over full..still does..
my truck has 44k miles on it, and have been dealing with this problem since 15k when I first noticed it.
dodge says its normal...cummins says 5% is ok at 7500 mile interval..
my dodge service manager says normal...I said if it is normal, where is it coming from...his response is...its normal..yeah right..
explanation?
Can someone with more knowledge of the magical inner workings of this engine explain the pathway from diesel tank to oilpan?
I've read reasons from: dpf venting into crank case??, diesel mixing with oil in turbo??, piston blowby??, and its just normal??.
So WTH is the reason?

When your truck does a DPF burn it needs extra fuel. To get this fuel the injector fires during the exhaust stroke. Some of that fuel finds its way down the piston to your oil supply.

And there is only one way to stop it...and truly extend your oil changes. I can't even remember the last time my truck was "making" oil.
