So the only reason i took the egr off is because in the winter I have alot of free time and I have been reading about the soot issues so why not. I was not having issues other than the mileage is real crappy but average for this truck based on other posts. I took it off again and cleaned it up. It was not quite as bad as it seemed at first but it was pretty dirty for 15,000 mi. After another season of work i may delete it and just deal with the warranty issues if they arise. At some point i will have to address my fuel bill with this truck either with a commuter car or an older truck. (especially if diesel goes way up)
I just hand calced my last tank. A mix of driving but no towing/hauling, 1/2 rural local and 1/2 highway under 70 and i am seeing 12.75 mpg. I understand the truck is big and heavy but it does have an aluminum bed on it. The not so funny thing is it gets 1 mpg better than my ford cf 7000 with a 5.9 in it loaded/unloaded average an it is a 26,000gvw. Sorry if this is getting ranty just frustrated a little. Thanks for your posts. The pic is of the soot i scraped out.

Wow - makes you want to get a gasser but dodge does not offer on a 5500 Chassis Cab.
