2016 RAM DEF Resevoir

Am I missing something, how do you refill with DEF without overflowing to know that it is full?

If you purchase your DEF in bulk at the pump, it will shut off like a normal fuel pump.

If you fill it from a 2.5 gallon jug, you'll have to listen closely....then you still might spill some.

Don't sweat it........DEF fluid cleans up easily with water and won't damage the paint, even if left to dry and it gets "crusty".

Also you'll get to where you know that when the needle is at a certain spot just hot much will fill it, I let mine get down to a 1/4 of a tank and 2.5 gallons will fill it to full with no mess.

I run mine down to just under half a tank and put 2.5 gals in with no issue. Works out to 2.5 gals every 2500 miles. I have gotten 1000 miles per gallon since new.

This is all I do too, I have to be careful in the winter months because of my flat bed I can hold a extra gallon because of the filler neck on my flat bed, so I just run it down longer and switch to a 1 gallon jug during the winter. This urea is the best thing that's happened for these trucks it'd painless, you get ridiculous mpg out of it, and it allowed ram to DE tune and un clog these motors and let them breath...

buddy says that DEF is "like mayonnaise"
he said it is organic, not like gas or oil, but more like something that can go bad.

you don't want it to sit in the tank & go bad, you want to run it as near empty as possible, and get the old goop out of it.

and you don't want to stock up on DEF and have it set in the bed or in a hot garage.

run it empty, buy fresh & run it out & then buy more.

DEF storage life can be up to 36 months @ 50F or less. Only 2 months if stored above 100F.

Chemical engineer told me is DEF is stored at or below 66 degrees it has an unlimited shelf life.

The "wives tales" on the internet will get you in trouble.

the guy who told me was a Dodge service advisor who has been replacing parts due to DEF going bad.

He told me to run it till it is red on gauge and put a fresh 2.5 gallon jug in it every time, and run it empty again

YMMV

yea my Ram service manager (who gets a PAID a commission on all parts, labor, and service he writes up) told me to use ONLY the Mopar stuff at $33 for 2.5 gals, right after I got 115 gals for 90 USD....

I know it was a difficult decision 13.20 a gal or .78 cents a gal but sometimes you have to make those tough decisions.

ahh those great service managers, ya gotta love their free advise........
