Report & Problems with 4500 & 5500
I would like to report the problems that I have had with my medium duty dodges. 5500: front passenger side tire is nearly worn in 60,000kms when the other side has plenty of tread, my dealer said call goodyear and goodyear said talk to dealer, after a alignment and balancing we determened that nothing was wrong but a faulty tire,so I swallowed my annoyment and put on the spare and all has been good so far. Next, the 4X4 will not disengage without putting the truck is netual for 30-60 seconds. Currently my front passenger side axle seal is leaking badly. All in all its been a good truck,I need to tignten the mirrors because they are very loose because of the pounding suspention of the 5500.
4500: No issues to report as of yet accpet a CEL that will be delt with monday.
They are good trucks overall,I perfer the 4500 over the 5500 because the 5500 will kill you without 8,000lbs on the rear frame. I wish they gave the trucks more power from the factory because the 5500 is a total dog all the time. The 4500 has good power. The problem with the 5500 is that when you lay into it with a load it just sits there and does not accellerate until you put it to the floor and it downshifts,I hate how they killed the spirit of the motor with all the derate and emissions.
The Aisin auto is a nice shifting tranny with a really nice first and reversse gear. If I were to order the truck again I would get the G56 because the Aisin just does not have good shift points,it shifts at 2100RPM and nearly kills the engine because it shifts throught the gears so quickly and you stuck at 1500RPM lugging it until it moans and groans up to 2000+. If you could have the option of manually shifting the truck with the auto it would make it an awesome truck
I am thinking about removing the emission on the 5500 when a good code-free kit is available.

With age comes the cage
So far the only problem I have had with the 5500 was the front pinion axle seal was leaking.. The dealer fixed it.
No complaints on the power as I am generally off road in 4 low as I pull the 42' GN (trailer and cargo about 15K)..
AS for the ride well it gets better when I'm attached to the Goose

I now have 2200 mile on my 5500. I bought it a month ago, I like how stable it is but the damb thing wont pull !!! My 04 will out pull it with out doubt. I put 16,250 lb behind it yesterday and ended up at 37 mph up a hill that the 04 will manage 50. What is wrong? I got it for work and to pull the heavy loads, thought it would be safer than with the srw. I really like how it feels with the load but holy cow! or should I say DOG! Does anybody have the same problem or is there something wrong with it? Thanks for the info if any

Well the 5500 has just had its first birthday and its at 110,000kms(68,000miles). I have has no trouble with it accept the axle seal. The has really woke up, it pulls hard now and feels like a cummins should-nice and strong on the low end and pulls nice and even on the top. Its still 100% stock and I almost like the "clean" diesel, also it sounds good, nice low rumble. The exhaust is as clean as new. For those with the C&C truck, just wait, once it gets broke in it becomes a monster!!, this truck walks over all my other 5.9L trucks and its about 4,000lbs more weight.

I'm looking at a 4500. It has the 4.44 and they seem a little low for highway driving. I drove a 3500 with 4.10's and that was much better. I think is was like 60 mph and 1800 rpm. What gears do you have. 4.10 or 4.44
