4500-5500 Cab & Chassis Performance

After seaching around I still don't have a good idea on what performance products can be used on the 4500/5500 trucks. I just purchased one of each and am wondering if anyone here hads done any mods to there 4500 or 5500, and how they are working and what is avalible. The two reasons I am looking one for economy and the other to get rid of governer, as the truck tops at 79 mph. Any help or hands on data would be welcome.

smarty, I just got word from PPE supplier that said their programmer will work on all 6.7's I am going to call PPE directly. Also I though that the power pup was also working on c&c, but maybe only the 3500.

The cab chasis 3500, 4500, and 5500's are the same engines so you should be able to use the 07 CC stuff on the 45/5500's.

I agree and it's not gunna solve his road speed governor problem either. I suppose the safer thing to say would be that it should not take long for the aftermarket companies to modify the current gizmos for the 45/55 cause its the same engine/trans as the 3500CC

Powerstroke, I am pretty sure they both do because we transported them about 40 miles to Rayside to have the utility/ service bodies installed and it sure felt like it fell off close to that. It pulled like a bat until it was there, and it was quick getting it to speed, I say its much faster of the line than the 08 2500 I just bought.
Maybe someone knows if they are speed limited, if no input by friday I am going to check them out when we bring em back to the shop.

I cant believe this is a problem with this trucks intended use as a dump truck, stake truck, and heavy hauler.Seriously, how fast do you want to go in a stiffly sprung 19500 GVWR 4.88 geared truck?Any idea the driveshaft RPM's at 100 mph with 4.88's? Im pretty sure the commercial tires arent rated past 79 either.

You could always try the key trick:

When you hit the governor, just reach down and "start" the truck with your key. This won't engage the starter (computer won't allow it) but deactivates the speed governor. Supposedly works in the 1500-3500 trucks when they hit the governor at ~112mph.

SOhappy, thanks I will give it a try when I get my trucks back
CCoop they are 4:44 at 70 I think the tach was at or near 2000 rpm, but the overhead increased a whole bunch at 2150 rpm, read it somewhere that was the "sweet spot". that was the 4500 as it is my truck.

John D. I am looking at the speed in the event of a saftey concern, example: in Tampa one of my trucks could not accelerate out of a idot punk that decided that he would pass a tractor on the right shoulder, well when his car came back onto the road it cannonbolted his car head on into my new truck, put two of my pipefitters in the hospital via air transport. He the idot was not so lucky they used shovels, what they could find of him. My point is I asked the driver why he did not accelerate out of the insident, his words" the ford had no more left in it" Needless to say its nothing about speed or speeding, its about saftey! Saftey first! others may have diffent opinions but thats why its a free world. I know I want to make it home eveynight... Where do you live at in Walden, was just in that area hunting?
