XM Roady fits perfectly in the ashtray

I finally stuck my XM into my Dodge. I'm using the FM modulator cord. Anyways, I was looking for a place to stick it, opened the ashtray (not a smoker) and it fits in there perfectly. Facing up and out a bit, easy to see, doesn't move around much at all. Won't slide side to side. I need to take a pict I know...but I was a bit shocked at how well it fit.

Please post photos. This may be a dumb question, but who makes it and where can I get one?

I bought the XM commander not too long ago, but I'm not all that thrilled with Satellite Radio. I imagine if I did more long distance travelling, it would be pretty cool, but I find myself listening to local stations 90% of the time because I'm sick of hearing the same songs 50 times a week. Is it me, or have others noticed this too?

The Phoenix to Yuma Dune trip covers some pretty desolate territory, there's not much to listen to on the radio once you get to Gila Bend, unless you don't mind the Mexican stations. XM sounds better thanlistening to my son's CD collection

You need to tune around. There are stations that just play the same songs over and over, and others that are more diverse. Also I enjoy the comedy channel when I'm feeling drowsy. I like it for long road trips, not a big music fan when driving around town.

I promise, I'll snag a pict and post it here soon.

I use the xm commander. If you dont have the heated seats, you can take out the tray under the a/c controls. The xm unit fits snugly in the a/c hard plastic ductwork. I cut some black automotive plastic to fit the opening from the tray, I then cut the center of the plastic to fit the mounting base for the head unit.

I bolted my CB radio to the outside of the ash try. It still opens and the CD is handy.

Cheers f

2nd pict. Hard to see, but the curves of the ashtray fit just perfect.

I was going to figure out a more polished mount, but this works just fine for me.

haha! NOW I see this after I platered that mount to my dash that is never at the right angle! lol

I have a "Roady" also and I enjoy it as I spend 10+ hrs a day driving my truck. Some of those comedy channels are a hoot! Peole must think I'm crazy sitting traffic laughing hysterically in my truck by myself! lol

Thanks for the idea! I have mine installed in the ash tray and it works great. Snaked the wires behind the dask and out behind the ash tray. A rather clean look........

When I get sick of radio or CDs for that matter, I just plug in my 30 Gig, portable Hard Drive Mp3 player( with over 5000 of my favorite tunes!) into my truck's JVC stereo ....and smile!
