would this work?

So I'm trying to figure out what I can do about my hitch situation on my 04 1500. I don't want to have to but a whole reciever asembly. I was thinking of making a plate with the 2" square tubing welded onto it and then just bolting it to the 3 holes that are in the standard bumper hitch. Reason for this is the hitch on it now is mounted like the compete replacements mount on. Would this work?

I bought one when I had an 04' Quad Hemi. No building anything. The reciever bolted up to the existing bar that is behind the bumper. It was only like $79.00 dollars.
