Wiring Question

In the wiring that leaves the passenger side kick plate and runs under the door sill towards the rear of the truck, there is a yellow wire that is a much heavier guage wire than the others. Does anyone know what this wire feeds? It is hot only when you turn the key to accy or on. This is what I need, but I hate to tap into a wire unless I know what it goes to.

Gonna be real hard to tell without more info. Do you have a power rear slider? Infinity sound or anything? Can't think of anything else that would require much power in the back of the cab. What guage is the wire?

Does it have a red tracer on the yellow wire? If so, it is for the power outlet in the center console. Does it come from the white connector at the kick panel?

No tracer, just solid yellow and I don't have anything fancy like infinity amp or slider. It's hot with key on like I want, but I'm afraid it's gonna trick me and cut off and on with something. I'm gonna have to hook a test light to it and drive around to make sure it stays hot I guess, unless somene knows what it powers.

It looks to be pretty heavy like maybe 12 guage wire. I have my under seat DVD player tapped to the center console wire which stays hot all the time, but I need one that comes on with the ignition in case I forget to turn the DVD off.

Be very careful! Your air bag wire will be a larger yellow wire and the air bag control module is under the middle of the front seat. That wire loom probably goes under the seats at some point.

I'll check again, but I think the wire continues down the door sill passed the front seats towards the backseat area. If it is for the air bag, would it have 12 volts on it?

Typically the airbag wiring is two wires inside a yellow case. They usually look somewhat different in appearance too. I would need more info on the connector i nthe kick panel to know for sure what wire it is. Connector color, number of wires, ect.

I'll try and look at it again this evening and see. Do you know of another wire in the passenger side kick panel that would be hot with ignition on that I could use.

Yellow with a red tracer is the wire for the power outlet in the center console. Can't remember for sure if it is ignition power or not. It might be hot all the time. Easiest way would be to plug something in to find out.
