Windshield Replacement on 2005??

Like a couple of other things that my truck has encountered (ding and check engine light) there is a small scratch on my windshield that has bothered me since delivery. The scratch is very slight and about 1" long. It is out of my view, but I know it's there (kinda like the door ding - no biggy but you know it's there - and bothers the heck out of me). The dealer has agreed to replace at a local glass shop that will use a new MOPAR windshield.

Any issues to replacing the windshield (leaks, breaking factory seal, etc.)???????

Thanks,

**** in Hemet!!!!

Baja, I didn't think it was possible but you could be more **** than I! Personally, I would live with the ding and scratch and get some other consideration out of the dealer such as a couple of Mopar goodies. In a couple of years, the ding and scratch will be one of many but you'll still have the goodies! Besides, "cosmetic surgery" is not without risk.

Fredbert,

Yah, I'm pretty ****

The dealer has already thrown in a spray in bed liner and returned $500 on purchase price due to an email they sent offering the truck to me at $200 under invoice, after I had already purchased for $300 over. Nice of them to honor the email. Plus the bedliner made the deal about $600 UNDER invoice.

The scratch should not have any risks other than the hole that will be drilled to acces tools for paintless ding repair. The windshield should be replaced without any issues -glass shop that has the dealer contract. NEW MOPAR is to be installed. Since the scratch is something I look everyday while driving it would be nice to have crystal clear one at least for awhile

I'm sure there will be other dings and windshield pits/scratches, I just hope they occur later rather than sooner.

BAJA,

Maybe it's time you took your boat down to the Sea of Cortez and got on with life. Hope it all works out well.

I have a cracked windshield, but I am waiting because the glass shop will have to drop the headliner to install according to several places.

Have you seen any of my posts about the windshield installer dropping the windshield on the hood of my previous Gen II? You could end up needing two dents or more repaired. If the windshield scratch is not that bad leave it alone. My Gen II and Gen III both have had scratched windshields from cinders thrown onto them and having the wipers on. It's only a matter of time unless you keep it in a bubble.

I'd leave it alone. I had a similar scratch in my windshield when I took delivery but as it was out of my field of view, I didn't bother with it. To replace the W/S, they have to remove the old glue, etc. and grind down the mounting surface. What are the odds the glass shop will prime and paint the surface correctly? After 4 - 5 years an improperly prepared surface will show rust. I'd wait until the inevitable rock/stone hits the w/s. Just my opinion, of course.

Take some MOPAR product in lieu of the repairs.

If this is an issue then imagine when they don't quite put the headliner in right or the windshield leaks or the make another ding etc etc. Run while you can.

I can understand wanting it perfect. However, it appears that your luck would not be in your favor to alter anything right now. Go with your gut.

If headliner needs to be dropped no biggy.Installing the windshield is no biggy eaither. It depends on THE guy installing it.I used a couple guys over about 10 years that all day did BMW's,Porche,Vettes,Yugo's etc.Never a leak, problem etc.Just ask to meet and talk breifly with the installer. If young and new pass.If been doing it a while and knows high line autos put one in it.

I had one of the biggest windshield outfits around replace a windshield on my GMC, my buddies wife worked at the place and they were going to do a "extra carefull job" because they knew how I was about the truck. Got it back, instead of taking off the A pillar mouldings they cut the windshield out with them on, they use a razor blade on a stick to cut the bond out, gouged the A pillars all up, they also got some of that black adhesive on my leather seat, could not get it off, they replaced the plastic pillar covers, but the stuff on the leather was there forever, reminding me every time I got in the truck. The capper was when I had the windshield replaced two years latter when it cracked from a rock I found out they made new holes with the sheet metal screws that hold the lower windshield tabs on and it was rusting out, I only found out as the guy who did the job was a friend of a friend and showed me the damage. Dodge dealers will not do windshields so you are the mercy of the hack windshield places, the majority of the installers who if they were not installing windshields would be pumping gas, I have no respect for the bussiness, in MA insurance has to cover glass so they look to do it as cheap as they can and then stick it to the insurance company as the owner never sees the bill. I will not have my windshield replaced unless I have to and then I will watch the entire proccess so they don't screw it up.

One of the reasons I love this place - various viewpoints to assist in the decision making process!!!!

With all the advice I decided to forego the installation until something happens to the factory one. I talked to the glass installer and he's been installing for over 15 years and understands my analness

I asked him if he would bill the dealer and show the install being done, but hold onto the windshield until I need it at a later date. He hesitated at first, but decided that would be OK.

So, he gave me the receipt and on my copy wrote that he owed me a MOPAR windshield. He also gave me his personal cell # and told me when I was ready, to call him personally and he would do the install. That's pretty good customer service!

Hat's off to my dealer, as they have offered to fix ding, returned some cash, paid for bedliner and windshield, and appear to want to keep me very happy!

I will return the favors by writing a letter to owner of dealership and cc'ing DC, as well indicating my satisfaction on the survey which should be arrivinbg soon!!

Things are looking better!!!!

Now I just need to go FISHING, catch some White Seabass (soon to arive in So.Cal) or Yellowtail (this summer), lose some analness, and I'll be good to go!!!
