Wierd no start
Wierd no start
Totally wierdness today. Finally got my remote keyfobs from dealer today. Went to Wal-mart to buy junk. Locked truck with new fancy keyfob, horn beeps at me. )) THen come out like 45 mins later and use keyfob to unlock doors. Eyeing th guy parked very close to the front of my truck..... No damage, don;'t think he hit me. )) Get in truck and turn key on everything looks good. But won't crank... 300 miles on odo and my truck wopuldn't start... I tried locking and unlocking with fob by hand and even getting out of the truck and using the key... Nothing. Since guy in front of me was tooo close, Ihis wife moved their ratty old truck out of the way, and I open hood. Look around, nothing odd. Shut hood hop in and truck starts... Go figure.. I have the black keys, so no chip in them. Wonder what the deal is? When I tried earlier, I did not lose power like a dead batt or something.. just no start..
I looked through the manual and found nothing about this. Thought maybe there was something with the keyfob I didn't know of...
Anyone have a clue? Will definately keep eye out for it again.

Happened to me once when truck was new, wasn't in park all the way. Do a search and I remember several folks had this. I took mine to dealer and they knew what to do to fix it. Something about a sleeve, a clip and removing the steering wheel encasement.

Same thing happened to me when I had my truck for just a couple months. It was summertime and I thought it had overheated something. Took me about 15 mins to figure out what had happened so out of habit now I always move the shift lever over all the way before I start it. Didn't know there was a fix for this but I am out of warranty now anyway.

Mine did the same thing a few weeks ago. I tried shifting into nuetral and no go. Then I tried while moving the shifter thinking that it might be the safety lock out switch, still nothing. I was in a remote area and needed to get it running. After putting it back in park and cycling the keys on and off about 20 times it started and has worked ever since,I think it might be in the ignition switch.
I sure wish I knew for sure. I don't want to get let sitting some where.

Found this excellent procedure added by HandyManTim who I'd like to thank!
OPERATION
The system locks the shifter into the PARK position.
The interlock system is engaged whenever the
ignition switch is in the LOCK or ACCESSORY position.
An additional electrically activated feature will
prevent shifting out of the PARK position unless the
brake pedal is depressed approximately one-half an
inch. A magnetic holding device in line with the park
lock cable is energized when the ignition is in the
RUN position. When the key is in the RUN position
and the brake pedal is depressed, the shifter is
unlocked and will move into any position. The interlock
system also prevents the ignition switch from
being turned to the LOCK or ACCESSORY position,
unless the shifter is fully locked into the PARK position.
ADJUSTMENTS - BRAKE TRANSMISSION
SHIFT INTERLOCK
Correct cable adjustment is important to proper
interlock operation. The gearshift cable must be correctly
adjusted in order to shift out of PARK.
ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE
(1) Remove the steering column trim as necessary
for access to the brake transmission shift interlock.
(2) Shift the transmission into the PARK position.
(3) Pull upward on both the BTSI lock tab and the
gearshift cable lock tab (Fig. 75).
(4) Verify that the shift lever is in the PARK position.
(5) Verify positive engagement of the transmission
park lock by attempting to rotate the propeller shaft.
The shaft will not rotate when the park lock is
engaged.
(6) Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Be
sure ignition key cylinder is in the LOCK position.
Cable will not adjust correctly in any
other position.
(7) Ensure that the cable is free to self-adjust by
pushing cable rearward and releasing.
(8) Push the gearshift cable lock tab down until it
snaps in place.
(9) Locate the BTSI alignment hole in the bottom
of the BTSI mechanism between the BTSI lock tab
and the BTSI connector.
(10) Move the BTSI assembly up or down on the
gearshift cable until an appropriate size drill bit can
be inserted into the alignment hole and through the
assembly.
(11) Push the BTSI lock tab down until it snaps
into place and remove the drill bit.
(12) Install any steering column trim previously
removed.

I drove my 04 quad cab CTD to work the other day,and left it all day while working.Came out after work to go home and it wouldn't start.Wouldn't even turn over
I tried bypassing the switch on the clutch pedal, and no go. It's got 18K miles on it,so it's still under warranty.Long story short.....they towed it to the dealer, and it ended up being the ignition switch.

They adjusted my trans shifter cable. I had to bring it in for detail and new trcuk delivery setup a week after I bought, they took care of it then. Good thing to know though.)
