Went to 285 70 17 Toyo, reflash???

I went from the factory BFG 265 70 17 to Toyo 285 70 17 yesterday on a 07 4X4 5.9 quad cab, 48re trans. Does it really matter if I have the computer reflashed to show the 285's??

Is it going to effect the shift points on the trans or is it just the speed ometer reading? Thanks

Not a reflash, but you do need to get the pinion factor adjusted. Takes them 5 minutes to do, but they will charge anywhere from zero to $60. I negotiated mine down from 40 to 20.

You'll need the Revs Per Mile for your new tires from the Toyo website. Should be in the 630s or so.

If you can check your speedo against a gps, I would do so first.
My speedo was 3-5 mph fast at 60-70 mph. That size tire probably would have made it nuts on.
My 315 have slowed the speedo down almost 10% at 60 mph. I'm leaving it like this to make up for the lost warranty I had over the first 30k miles.

Hey that 10% off saved my butt on warranty... I rolled in to the dealership at around 35,800 miles needing a new AC compressor.

Little did they know! Or little did they care??

The difference w/ 285s is only 3%. I am not gonna do mine in case I decide to go back to the 265s.

For mine the 285s made a big enough difference between actual speed and speedo to necessitate the change. I wanted to be able to accurately calculate MPG and minimize the risk for denied warranty work and speeding tickets.

Not a big fan of "cheating the system" either. No matter how slight. Honest people get harrassed and everyone's costs go up because of warranty work being done on rigs with stealthy power adders. If you haven't noticed, Chrysler filed Chapter 11 and my guess would be that Service Dept's will become even stricter than before. Not worth the risk, IMHO. (not a popular opinion, I know )

The dishonest wil eventually be worked out of the system in the natural course of product development. Nobody will able to do much in the way of electronic modding after they figure out how to lock it down good once and for all. Too bad all the Smarty/Edge/Quad/BD/whathaveyou people will be hurting. Ironic.

I wasn't suggesting to buy a "Smarty" in order to "cheat" the system. I just suggested it in order to adjust the pinion factor....plus it's many other benefits. My truck has never been back to the dealership since well before I purchased my own Smarty. I agree with the "you play, you pay" for problems directly related to programmers, chips etc. I guess im not really seeing where my post (im assuming GSW and Ace were talking to me) suggested to "cheat".
