It's still cheaper for a gallon of 2 cycle oil for about $8 bucks... And I know every ounce of that 2 cycle oil is OIL!!! and I know my mixture is about 120:1 which is a heck of a lot better than 400:1... Still cheaper than PS!

Cummins will alow burning of WEO (Waste Engine Oil) up to a quart of oil to a tank of fuel... Just using the same figures and dumping clean oil in...

What type of 2stroke oil are you using and where are you getting it for 8 bucks a gallon.

I think the 2 cycle oil guys have some good points, and the fact that the CENTINEL system introduces used oil into the fuel system strengthens the case for use of 2 cycle oil in the CTD. I have to say however that I am on the fence here. I use PS only, it does contain their Slickdiesel formulation. Mixing ratios aside with the PS, I wonder if the Slickdiesel additive is similar to the ol' Slick 50 treatments that used the PTFE to bond to engine parts. As far as MMO goes, so many have used (and continue using) it without any documented detrimental effects. I guess it all comes down to the classic "I am my own warranty station," since as the operator of the vehicle, you know best what kind of usage and what kinds of issues you have with your own vehicle. There's truth to both positions on this issue.

More rant...

That's a good reason why most of these guys are buying MMO to add to the PS... But still now you got $11-$12 bucks for PS and about $5 bucks for MMO (I think that's the price I paided last)

Now your talking $17-$19 bucks for fuel treatment (MMO and PS)...

But I'm also considering PS and 2 Cycle oil this winter when it gets cold. The PS is for anti-gel purpose nothing more... But first the weather has to get cold again...

Once again a good reason why I lean towards 2 cycle oil... it's cheap, it's clean, and it works good...
LOL$17-19 per tank? I hope you're joking.

Im spending $7.9X on the small Power service bottle, lasts 3-4 fillups...

Right now im spending about $2.50~ each fillup with power service...
That DOES add lubrication btw.

No... I was quoting the price I pay at walmart per bottle (large)... I Would mix as directed on the bottle. 9.6 Oz of PS... As for MMO I only used it once... But its like $5 bucks a quart...

As for lube it really small amount... Then ask yourself (the one's that mix both PS & MMO) why are you add MMO on top of the PS if it got lube??? Is it possible that it's not enough...

PS would last me 10 fill up "if" used as directed.

Just because others add MMO doesnt mean it doesnt have any/enough lubricating properties. Id rather take my chances with something approved, and not worry about injectors later on, they are sensitive enough as it is on these 3rd gens, and not cheap to fix either. I guess time will tell if im an idiot for not running 2 cycle oil

I was refering to the small bottle(32oz) @ 3-4 fillups, as I keep that one in the truck, and use the large bottle to fill it up as its used up. The 96oz bottle I picked up was $12/13~....

As for the ratio, there are two different ratios for boosting cetane...

Well... I forget where I'm at... Yes.. I'm in a 3rd Gen forum...

Your right 3rd Gen truck have had there problems with injectors. Kind of like the same problem we 2nd Gens are having...

I'm not going to turn this into a match... I was just trying to voice my findings with other people. So I'm going to humbly decline out of this thread...

With all the debate on this subject, I decided to send an email to Cummins and ask straight out if I could use 2 cycle oil in my fuel. They came back with a wonderful essay on diesel fuel, but completely ignored my question, but at the same time did not advise against using it. So I have gone back to them and made it very clear what question I wish to have answered. We shall see if they answer directly or try to show off their stick handling skills again.

Two stroke mixture oil is fine. I'm running TCW3 two stroke mixture since it's ashless. 16oz per tank.
Walmart sells it for about $8 a gallon.

Um - does anyone have any documentation from the Cummins people (not some 'other' site) that says this is acceptable in our HPCR engines?

I know I've read about doing this with some of the older diesels, but I haven't read anything about this for a common rail engine...

Hey - if I'm wrong, please correct me :-)

ON EDIT: Ooops - I see that Way Up North is trying to get that answer. Sorry about that.
