Truck's in the shop - AGAIN

First it was a leaking rear window. The factory literally forgot to put some urethane around some portions of the window. The local dealer had to completely remove and reinstall.

Then the leak stained the rear seats so badly they could not clean them. New rear seat upholstery all the way across.

Then it started taking 10-15 seconds of hard cranking to start the engine. Purred like a kitten once it was started, and ran nice and strong, but could take 2-3 sessions of 10-15 seconds cranking to fire it up whether warm or cold.

Now, this morning, my wife started it and the Check Engine light came on and stayed on. She drove it straight to the local dealer. After listening to her, they said "Better plan on leaving it a while."

So I'm without a truck. AGAIN.

This thing's barely two months old. Barely 2K miles on the odometer.

Let's see, where did I put that Lemon Law paperwork....

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Nothing sucks worse than spending 40K plus on a truck, and having problems. Hopefully they resolve them soon, and it will be good from here on out.
What kind of rear window did you have leaking ? The reason why I ask, is my 2006 mega cab had water all over the inside of it by the rear sliding window when I picked it up from the dealer. It had just been washed and I figured the water had come from someone washing it with a power washer.

Same as yours - rear sliding (part of the Big Horn package). The dealer said they've never seen as many window leaks as they've had in the past year or two. Made me wonder if the factory has changed their window installation process and hasn't quite worked out all the bugs yet.

I shrugged off the window leak, and the upholstery - hey, it's a complex machine and mistakes happen. But now I'm seeing engine problems, and the CTD was THE REASON I purchased this rig in the first place! I'm nearing my tolerance level for "annoying problems with a new vehicle".

Sniff... sniff... what's that lemony odor?

Update on sick truck...

The dealer just called. They blamed the "check engine" light on bad firmware in the ECM/PCM. They've reflashed it and claim it's fixed.

I also asked about the hard starting (I read on this forum that there's supposedly a reflash for that, too) and they claim they've flashed it with all current updates. "It's completely updated."

If this doesn't fix it, their next suggestion was to trade me for a whole new truck.

Just kidding. That was actually MY suggestion.

We'll see how it goes.

I hear ya man. My truck is sitting with a dead ecm. No performance mods at all. 4,500 on the clock. It has been 12 days and they say the part is back-ordered and are unsure when it will arrive. Lemon Law says 30 days or more new truck indicated. I can't believe I am having to deal with this. 45k!!! It really sucks.

Sounds like you have a decision to make:

1) Make them aware that YOU are aware of the "30 days out of service" Lemon Law requirement, thus adding pressure on them to do it right.

2) Go quiet, say nothing, hope they don't oil your non-squeaking wheel, and thus rack up the day count on your out-of-service truck until you pass 30 days (plus a few to avoid any argument). Then you're in a very powerful bargaining position. Can you say "New Truck, or Free 10/100 Warranty"? [grin]

My 06 was acting almost similar to yours. First, my check engine light came on, then I had a whinning noise up front, which turned out to be a bad output shaft bearing on the transfer case, and they reflashed it. 2 days after I got the truck back I had a loud popping noise under the truck, 20 mins later check engine light came back on. The very next day the tranny went out. Had it towed to the dealer, and they tell me my tranny internally came apart. They got parts on order and still sitting in the shop for a week now. Who knows when it will get done. Hopefully soon. I hope the thing makes it cross country in a few monthes. Could anyone tell me about that 30 days or more for maintenance on the lemon law???

Did you buy the truck from the dealer thats repairing it? If you were my customer and just bought the truck from me, I would rob one out of another truck on the lot, put it in yours to keep you happy and get ya down the road! (I've done it before with my VW customers)

WACTD, Some people are having hard starts with the Roktech after time. Just a thought. If I were thinking lemon law I wouldn't have any aftermarket products on the truck. ks

Mine exhibited the "hard starting" before the RokkTech...

I had a few instances of hard starting before the RokkTech ever showed up. In fact, at first I thought the RokkTech had improved things - I went for over a week without a hard start, and was really happy with the "bonus" benefit.

I don't think the RokkTech has anything to do with my hard starts.

When I test drove my '03 with 24,500 miles it started after a second or two of cranking. The dealer put half a tank in while I completed the paper work and it was immediately hard to start taking one or two 15 second cranking to get it started, but it ran fine after started. I was real worried that something was wrong but after I got down to a 1/4 tank I filled up at a local station and the truck has started after a 1 to 2 seconds of cranking since then.

For those of you earn your living with your truck subscribe to Business Direct (I think that's what it's called). It's free and my son had it. When you have a problem they give you priority service and if they keep the truck they give you a similar one to use to continue with your business. My son used it several times. The truck has to still be under warranty.
