i need to haul a pallet of material from houston to brownsville tomorrow night, and it weighs about 4300#

is this too much weight to be throwing in the back of the bed?
and should i air up to 80 psi in the tires?

i have a 32 ft tandem dual gooseneck, but i have not gotten the truck DOT'ed and don't wanna get hung up in south texas trying to get it straight if i get pulled over.

i did not think it would be an issue, but thought i would get a second opinion.

after i thought about it for a minute, i figured that when i haul a load of hay i have 20k behind the truck, and if you figure the pin weight of the hitch, i am pretty close to that already.

Yeah, you should be fine. I've hauled 4,000lbs of feed in a 2500, 200 miles round trip without a problem.

i just noticed you are from llano.... i grew up in Mason. and everytime i run through llano i have to stop in for some cooper's, that stuff is good.

Ever been to London Hall? my family used to own that place until we sold it in 1983.
i still have family in mason, and pontotoc.

I have heard of London Hall, but I havn't ever been there. Oh yes, Cooper's BBQ. When I was in college, the way that most people knew Llano was 1-they had hunted in Llano, or 2-they had been to Cooper's. Good to see that someone knows where Llano is!

While you can haul is yes you will be over legal weight which is a DOT no no also. The truck is rated for 12,000# and you are hauling 4,300#, that leaves 7,700# for the weight of the truck and everything else in it. I have not weighed my truck empty but I have heard that the weigh over 8,000#.

It will handle the weight fine, just make sure you strap it down good so it doesn't come through the back window when you have to make that emergency stop, oh ya don't get scaled either

i have never run stopped at a scale house before, but i have always run farm tags on truck and trailer, and i was legal for 34,000 gross.

now that i have a flatbed trailer instead of a lowboy gooseneck, i am more likely to get stopped for a dot inspection.

so rather than get shut down in south texas over the weekend, i figures i would just throw it in the bed.

looks like i am gonna have to go get my CDL now and have the truck and trailer dot inspected, since i am gonna be at 36,000 gross with the new trailer i am having built.

I put over 4000 pounds in the bed of my 3500 SRW every week (haul water), it's a Dodge, not a Cheby or a Furd...go for it! 15k trouble free miles and counting.

 

My 2000 Lance 1030 truck camper weighs more than 4300... I weighed my last truck (my 01) with and without the camper and determined that the camper weighs 4500 lbs wet. The truck was 7800 lbs without me in it (full of fuel).

Now that I have the new truck, I'll go get it weighed once I get the new hitch and camper tiedowns installed...
