Too much weight?

I am getting ready to build a rack that will carry 2 ATVs at bed top level sideways. Roughly about 1200lbs. Then I want to be able to pull my camper still not that big or heavy about 3000lbs. Is this possible to do safely? I have seen others do it just not on a first gen. Anything to add, airbags sway bar? I have a weight distibuting hitch and Rs 9000 shocks.

depends on the tounge weight of the trailer. but if it feels good go for it. maybe ad aleafs or air bags at worst case. jiMMy

I didn't think it would be too much really, but some people seemed to think I was crazy. Which I am but that is beside the point. The worst thing is I will have to remove my stacks and go back to the 4". Oh well I miss smoking ricers anyway.

Man i dont think that well be a problem at all. ive hauled 14 1500lb round bales on a standard trailer, with bout 500lbs of junk (twine, parts, ect) in the bed and the only problem i had besides stoppin was that my exhaust pipe would scrape in someplaces (its at a weird angle to the ground) my buddies were suprised, they drive a couple ferds and one has a 6.5 so it doesnt take much

You will be fine.

My combo is a small pop-up cabover (~1700 lbs fully loaded), and the Jeep on a trailer (~6000 lbs combined), for a total of 14k pounds. I have airbags on the rear to level the truck and help cut down on the sway, and the truck handles everything just fine.

Well, since the pic isn't showing up for some reason, you can click here to see it.

I will guess that your truck weighs 6000 (or just under) full of fuel with you in it. The GVWR should be about 8500 lbs. That leaves 2500 for pay-load and tongue weight. You should be all set -- you might want to take it a little easy on the curves with the center of gravity up a little higher, but you certainly are not going to be overloading the truck.

Rock n roll mudcat!! I do worse than that on a daily basis in the summer! As long as your hitch is up to it, your truck is more than ready.

Thanks guys, I guess the stacks are coming off. Sure beats buying a new toyhauler. Well it beats having to pay for a new toyhauler anyway. I will get some pics when I get it all loaded up.

I built a flatbed arangement for the purpose you are wanting, it slides in over top of bed rails. It works real good. With two four wheelers, fuel and 27ft. trailer I gross out a little over 19,000 and pull some good grades have no problems. If I were to do it over I think I would try to bolt four channels of some type where atv wheels would be, I think it would make for easier attachment. Good luck it will be worth it.
There is a business in Hines Oregon that makes a unit that is real nice has built in ramps that slide through so you can ride up one side and down the other, looks good but around $1200.

I am wanting to make on kind like this click here But maybe roll the alcles so they will be arched and have a little more room under the quads in the center. I am still thinking on the attatchment system bot for the quads and the rack to the truck. When I come up with what I want I will be set to start.
