Tolls: DRW vs. SRW

Are the tolls higher for a DRW than a SRW?

I'm in New Jersey if that maks a differance.

It depends on where you are but they consider it 2 axles since you have dual wheels. I remember having to pay more when I had my dually...

Drw's are charged for "3" three axles (total). I don't know if it's double but it's darn close in some areas. If you read my sig. you will see SRW. Tolls where a major concern for me also. Good luck

Yes DRW will cost you more at the tolls, However don't let that deter you if you need them to pull the load that intend on pulling. It's better to be safe than to be cheap, because being cheap will end up cost you more in the long run

tolls for my dually in NJ are the same as single wheel on the parkway and Turnpike. I havent tried any of the bridges or tunnels yet, maybe thats where there is a difference.

The bridges are where they get you, the DRPA charges duallys the 2 axle commercial rate - which is $4.50 per axle! The Del. Mem. is cheaper, only $6 to get across. I still think it's funny that you can get into Jersey for free but you have to pay to get out.

Yep, I found that out too, back in May, when I went up to Maine.

if the bridges take ezpass, I think you could get away without the extra fees. when you fill out the application for ezpass, just check single rear wheel and play stupid if you get caught

About a year ago up near Chicago, I had to pay commercial tolls on my dually. I offered to take the training wheels off, but they did not have any sense of humour.

Next time your on the NJ turnpike, ask a toll-booth person.

Funny you bring up tolls. While coming home on the Ohio Turnpike this summer, the lady at the toll asked if I "was carrying anything inside the truck?" I said "no, but am wondering why you asked me that?"

She said my truck was heavier than 7000 lbs and that I was required to pay a higher toll fee. I said that my truck weighed more than 7000 brand new from the dealer. My normal GVW is around 7600 running around town.

I did neglect to ask if the toll booths had scales under them - shame on me. But thats what it seemed like.

I did have to pay the next higher toll fee.

I second the motion for an easy pass. Get one for the car, and take it with you in the truck. Has worked like a champ back and forth to NYC a couple of times.

Can't do that. IMO dishonest, pure and simple. Not passing judgement, that's me.

I have not been through a toll road yet with my truck, but I will have to point out to them that it is extra wheels on the truck...not an extra axle....like a trailer, etc. That don't seem right.

So is charging a driver for driving a three axle vehicle when it is obviously not. If I am driving an unloaded, unbadged, non-commercial two axle vehicle that just happens to have 2 extra tires, that doesn't slide me into the OTR bracket, no matter how you interpret it.

I am just glad I don't live anywhere where there are tolls. I'd be 'dishonest' as heck and run the SunPass, FunPass, or whatever they are calling it.
