Tires Michelin A/T2

Just wondering if any of you guys are running these and if so what are your impressions of them. I am going to have a set put on my truck Wednesday and they will be the stock 265/70/17 Load E. My truck is used mainly on road and I pull a 12k 5th wheel at least once a month. I do go off road a few times a year in East Texas which is mainly sandy loam soil. I am replacing the BFG Rugged Trails that were standard on my truck.

I purchased the AT/2 tires on both trucks noted in my signature from Costco and have been very pleased with their overall performance. I definately observed a big improvement over the stock LTX tires in regards to traction in wet grass and loose road surfaces. I felt that the stock LTX tires were a very good highway tire that wore llike iron (84,000miles),however; they were not suited for rain or snow covered roads or soft ground. Given that information,I searched for a tire that would wear as well, but perform significantly better than the stock LTX tires did. To me,the AT/2s seemed to be the perfect replacement.

My 01.5 currently has 48,000 miles on the Michelin AT/2s which are wearing like iron. They perform very well and have exceeded my expectations. I would expect to get at least 75,000 miles or more out of them. The AT/2s on my 03 have gone 24,000 miles so far with very little and exceptionally even tread wear. I would like to get 75000 miles out of them as well. Given their condition so far, it appears that this goal is well within reach. I also pull a 5th wheel and have taken the truck out in the sand a few times. The AT/2s wear very well and have become my choice for tires in the future.

I agree with the above I also bought mine from COSTCO as the warranty crosses borders about half of my driving is in the States I also had the LTX tires and they wore well but were sure slip no grips and I was in 4x4 when everyone else was in 2 wheel drive I only have 30,000miles on my A2s but they look good for a lot more.

20k on my AT2's and really like them. Put 60k on the stock Michelins but hated how slippery they were. The AT2 will be a little more road noise when the windows are down but not bad. But rain & snow and not having to use 4x4 every time is nice.

I would have gotten a set, but I wanted to stay with the more aggressive look of the BFG's K/O's. They looked more like street tires even though Michelin considers them their AT tires.

Thanks for all the replies. I am having them installed tomorrow then we hookup to the 5th wheel Thursday and head to the country for 10 days. That should give them a good workout.

My two cents… in hope of improving winter performance commuting through the Sierra’s in winter I brought the AT2s from Costco; they are marginally better than the stock BFG Rugged Trails in snow and also in the dirt… but, I don’t feel they are a better handling tire on the high-way. The AT2s tend to follow any undulations and ruts in the road surface, and they don’t hold nearly as stable on cornering… especially through the mountains and with the weight of a diesel engine up front (even w/75 to 80 psi). Consequently, I brought a second set of BFGs for summer driving. I just like driving with the BFGs more than the AT2s. They are both quality great wearing tires.

My total yesterday for a set of 4 was $1109 OTD. That is with metal valve stems and the road hazard warranty from Discount Tire. The big test comes tomorrow towing the trailer but so far I am liking them as well or better than the Rugged Trails that came off the truck.

I put the Michelin AT2 in 265/70R17 on my truck today replacing the uber crappy BFG Rugged Trail stockers. The stockers were only half worn, but were badly cracked and had some sidewall damage. It was $1059 out the door with the Discount tire free replacement warranty certs and our crappy 8.95% sales tax. The warranty for all 4 was $132, free replacement for the life of the tire on any non repairable defect. They also include lifetime balance and free rotations as often as you want in done. I'll probably have them rotate every oil change..
