Michelin Tires
Currently I run a set of white letter Michelin LTX M/S 265/75/R16 tires on my 93 3/4 ton which were givien to me recently because they were considered to be worn out(Keep in mind we're talkin half an inch of thread). Anyhow they were an obviously step up from my previous tire but I didn't expect them to perform this well. I'm aware of the Michelin's soft sidewall and how they grip the road but they wear GREAT. I've done a few power brakes and a few brake stands and each and every time it seems as if they just spin and dont hurt the tire any recognizable amount(very little rubber left behind). Mind you they're noisy as all get out but that squeel they let out just makes my truck look all the more powerful
. I know my father always runs Michelins on his big rigs and swears by them to no end but they truly are a good riding, and gripping tire.
Anyone else run a tire like these?

I just bought a set of those exact tires, not cheap @ $170/tire, but i feel they will last. My stock tires (Michelin A/S) lasted to 70K, and the wear bars were barely noticible. I could have gone more, but i didnt want to chance have tire problems. My have bought 3 sets of Michelins and I never once had any type of tire problem.
Michelins are a great tire for these trucks (as stated, NOT cheap though). I still have 2 original tires that are at 71K, but are badly in need of replacement.
My wife ran the OE set on her stratus to 91,000 miles!

Yes they are expensive and considering how the price of rubber has gone up... they're even more pricy. And who do we blame this on? Fuel prices of course... *mumbles*
Michelin's LT truck tires are great if you value treadlife above all else.
Unfortunately, they often deliver POOR traction and braking performance. My LTX A/S (the oem rubber) tires in 265 size are terrible. I've had to use 4wd to get moving on wet grass! Traction off-road is not so good.
On wet roads, I have almost spun my truck from a little too much pedal. VERY SCARY!
In deeper snow (over 3") they are terrible.
On ice they are bad, but not as bad as they are in other areas. Here, the siping and such makes for better performance.
In the end, the Michelins are designed for long treadlife on perfect roads in perfect weather. They are great towing tires.
Besides, tires are a WEAR ITEM. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO WEAR OUT. I suspect that the long treadlife of the Michelins comes at the expense of almost every other measure of tire performance. Now, we all want long life, but I'd much rather a great tire more often than have one last forever, keeping me stuck with poor traction for years!
I hate my michelins in my truck. The Energy MXV4 tires on my car are fantastic. I don't use my truck like I use my car and vice versa.

Snow, what's that?
I hated the LTX A/S's that came on my truck stock (would have hated them even more had I still lived in the snow belt when I bought the truck). As was stated before, on dry roads they were great, on wet roads they sucked.
I put a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers on next and was not satisfied with the wear. The local Discount Tire gave me a deal (1/2 off) of a set of Michelin 285/75 R16 LTX M/S to replace the Nittos. They are quiet on the road, have worn like iron, and have better traction than the A/S's when taking off from a light in the rain. I wish they had a little better traction in the rain, but overall I am satisfied. I have not used them in an off-road situation nor have I been in snow with them

I have been a Die Hard Michelin LTX person for years. I wore the Badyears off the 04 faster then I have EVER seen a tire wear...poor tires, poor ride.
I am now trying a set of TOYO HT's. I think theres a pic in my gallery. So far in the rain...real good. I will see how they do in the snow but I chose this ribbed design for the 99% highway I do. I was also able to air these up higher then the Michelins and the turdyears. I ran the michelins at 50 front and 45 on the rear duals. I had the worstyears at 40 front and 45 rear...the ride was poor no matter what the pressure but put in 70 and I was bouncing all over the road.
I now run 75 front and 70 rear on the Toyos and I have noticed better ride and of course better highway mileage.
TOYO is worth looking at. I paid 201.00/Cad per tire. A far cry from the 370-380 per I was told was a good deal on the dudyears. LOL

Yeah Scotty... a little more emphasis on the Goodyear's... I think a few people missed your point
But yeah I'm with you on that one. Goodyears would be one of the last tires I'd put on my truck.

I took the junkyears off my 03 Jeep with about 80 percent tread and chunked them. Put on Coopers and the ride improved 300 percent. Took them off my little economy buggy and put on Michelins. I won't even entertain the thought of putting goodyear on anything I own, not even the wheelbarrow.
When I had a wear problem with the crapyears I went to the local kakayear tire store.
They told me it was my alignment. I had it checked and all was within spec.
I went back to them with the alignment specs. Then they told me it was the alignment.
AGAIN!
For curiosity sake I asked them to quote me a replacement set...over double what the TOYO HT's cost me because they also wanted 40 per tire for mounting and balancing.
I had a set of dodoyear tires on my first car I ever bought new and I cringed when I saw that was what was on this truck.
Yeah I guess I have a dislike for the pupeyear tires since I was treated like a dummy at the store. I never saw a tire wear as fast as these other then my buddie's tires on his Viper.
I wonder why I have such even treadwear now and the alignment has not changed?

Maybe the horrible tires you have now are scaring the front end into submission?
Just a guess...
I also hate Badyear tires... 3 kinds came on 3 different trucks when I bought ham, only one was any good at all, and even those were not all that great...

I used to curse the Michelins EVERY time I hit the highway in the winter.
My Michelins are about dead after 105,000. I agree that clear and dry and towing they are great but if it's wet or snowy forget it. Ice......friction is 0.0
The tire store swears the Firestone Transforce A/T or the Steeltcx are the ultimate. About 130 each.
Wally has the Dualler for about 90 mounted and bal.
I don't know I have about a month to think about it.
