Tail Light Problems

I have a 2003 CTD Quad Cab and am having a problem with he "Lamp Out" indicator in the dash panel. It is periodically lighting up and the bell that accompanies it is sounding. I have checked all the lights on the truck numerous times and cannot find any out. Has anyone had this problem or is there a TSB out there?

Thanks,

TXPOWER

yes it is quite common.. It is one of two things, Either there is "going" to be a burnt out bulb or the circuit board has gone hey-wire!!! ha Anyway Let it go for a while and see if any light burn out, if not bring it in. If you are still under warranty good deal if not I believe it is about $25.00.

Lots of these problems lately. Mine just did it too. I replaced all the bulbs and all is well. Apparently the computer can sense when a bulb is about to go out and tells you beforehand. Others had to replace the whole circuit board on the taillight assembly to fix their problem... Do a search if you need part numbers.....

BTW, Both my center lights looked like they were about to go. All 6 bulbs are the same too...

Guys, Mine is the check gages light, quick flash, bell, gauges all ok, oh well. I think there is a tsb to fix it on 03's but the flash probably causes more serious problems. ks

Mine did the same thing starting about 3 weeks ago. I was about to pull my hair out checking bulbs and not finding any bad ones. I took the advice from here and let it go and just ignored it and just over the past weekend, the lamp out light came on and stayed on steady and at that time, I found that it was the left brake light that had finally burned out. Replaced it for $1.29 and all is good now.

It happen on my '02 and on my '03. No lights were out at first and it would come on intermitantly. Then the left bulb went out on both. I replaced them and have had no issue since.

Mine did this last week as well, I looked at all of my lights and nothing appeared to be out until I shut the tailgate and noticed the right rear tail lamp sort of flickered, banged on the lens a little and it flickered again. I replaced the bulb with a new one so far so good.

Change the bulbs and your problem will go away. Or you could wait a couple of weeks and the bad bulb will burn out....and it WILL happen. These trucks are smart. They can predict the future.

Light bulbs

My 03 used to do it periodically.

The thin wire on the bulb making contact melted into the plastic on the buld itself. it will drive you crazy going down the road. I scraped plastic clear and slid my pocketknife underneath the wire to bring it out. I didn't have onother one handy or I would have just replaced it.

I just had the same problem. It was intermittent for awhile and then the lamp out light was on all the time. It turned out to be the left brake light bulb. When I removed it the fillament was intact and looked okay. The problem was that the plastic underneath one of the contact wires at the base of the bulb had apparently gotten hot and melted under the wire. Resulting in loss of contact. This probably happened over a period of time until all contact was lost, thats why it was intermittent.
