Tachometer

Anyone have tach issues? My 06 is showing lower rpms on initial start, 400-500 on the tach but the engine is at normal idle. Tap the throttle tach comes up normally then drops back down to 500 then flickers up and down then goes to normal.

What say you?

Thanks

I've noticed mine doing the same thing from time to time, checked for codes and the only one I had was for the EGR but expected that since the plug to the thing just keeps falling off. Decided to put it on the watch list just in case.

There are a few threads on here regarding 06 tachs not working. They will throw a 'body code' I believe. Starscan or AutoEnginuity type scanners will pick it up. The dealer will say that the cluster needs to be replaced ($600+). There is a guy in Winnipeg, Manitoba that can fix them for about $200. Should come up with a search.

Mine does that some times. I have read about what the above post is talking about. I will not worry about it until it actually goes nuts. As soon as I start driving, the tach always reads correct.

It's just a matter of time. I did the mr. Whizzard in manitoba and the service was A1. Been 10,000 miles or so and is rock steady. Getting it out is the biggest hassle. Not bad really, but just not intuitive and man oh man do you have to pry hard ont the trim around the stereo to get it to release!

Mine's been doing it for a while now. I figured it would be a tard to get the cluster out so I'll wait till it quits completely.

Is there a place in the states that repairs them??

Mine does the same thing too. Idle reads about 400 rpm's too low and acceleration is about 200 rpm's too low. But, when the TC is locked it's spot on, so who knows. I'm just dealing with it for now, but it's pretty annoying that they couldn't even make the tach reliable.

It's easy. They e-mail you a prepaid shipping label for UPS that you print out and attach to your box and drop it off at UPS. That is all you need to do. In 2 weeks it is back on your doorstep. There is nothing else you have to do. Wish all shipping was that easy. The price includes shipping both ways. Very good outfit to deal with. Top Notch! They even tell you how to box it for protection!
