Drone vs. no drone probably depends a lot on how long your exhaust pipe is. Kinda like rubbing your wet finger on the rim of a glass. Everything vibrates, but when certain things vibrate "in-phase" things get loud. All you have to do is change the way something vibrates...add a weight to the pipe, or a piece of sheetmetal.

On a side note...has anybody ever tried that trick where you tape a washer to somebody's driveshaft and see what they say when you see them again?

his straight pipe sounded pretty good to me. Just a little higher pitch, but he has the stock exhaust without the muffler. Maybe 4 all the way would be a little deeper. I could really tell when he switched the box on too...a little louder and higher pitched.

we were running through town side by side and on the hwy. hwy and his truck gets real quiet with no load. going throught he gears and it gets loud. My son was with me and he said "Daddy, that truck sure is loud..."

At idle, they are very close to the same sound. mine MIGHT be slightly deeper. He also has a 5 inch tip which would effect the sound slightly....

He agreed on my 1500 BBBRRRAAAAAPPPPP so, it's not just me!

JKE that's ok though, I can fart on the imports...

Update on my straight pipe experiment. I drove for about 1.5 hrs at 75 mph last PM and there was a drone that I would love to get rid of. I would like to try and weld about a 1.5' piece of heavy steel, maybe 1" square rod to a middle section using three "hangers" spaced on the ends and one in the middel to see if it works to absorb the vibration (if this is the problem). I love the straight pipe but could do w/o the drone sound. Please come forward-w-recommendations. I have all I need to try it and it would take about 1/2 hr to try. Should I space off the "tuning" device a certain amount? I was going to just use some 1"x 1/8" flat bar?
