Steering Updates ??

I have a 04 and see some are getting the new pitman arm and steering components etc. I still have warranty for another 5000km and was thinking about getting that all done. Is this update/mod worth the trouble ? I have been death wobble free for 155000km. I also have a ball joint that needs to be done as well. Ideas ?

I was thinkig about replacing mine, but once I saw that the "upgrade" wasn't even greaseble, I changed my mind.

I have looked at the update and it is well worth it. The rods are much thicker to prevent flexing. This is the main idea of the upgrade. To me, the most important part is that your old linkage has 155,000 km on it. If warranty will cover it, you will be starting fresh and not have to worry about it for another 155,000 km (theoretically).

I would not worry at all about it not being greasable. In my experience, greasable steering components really don't last any longer. The non-greasable ones are sealed up much better, and moisture will never get in and compromise the lubrication.

Toruqe,

Do you know if anyone offers the "upgrade" that has been powder coated? I am on this new kick about making sure that all my parts are either powder coated or have some quality rust preventing paint on them. I have some pretty rough looking rust on parts due to salt water in Ca.

The '08 steering linkage is a serious and very good upgrade. It is far stronger and has no flex joint between the front wheels. A much better design and, as far as I'm concerned, a must have item. Too bad they are not greaseable, but they are still way worth it.

Powder coating them would still not protect the threads in the adjuster and the clamps, or the tie rod end studs. That's what Rustoleum is for.

It's the third gen factory '08 steering linkage. It requires the matching pitman arm and a new damper (either Dodge or aftermarket). This is not a kit. It is three separate component part numbers that must be ordered as individual parts. Or get the two Dodge parts and an aftermarket damper for an '08.

This fits all 3rd gen 2500 and 3500 trucks and replaces the weak older design. It all just goes right in and works better, as well as providing additional peace of mind. I highly recommend it and wish they would have put it on all third gens from the factory.

Powder coating is a good idea, but I'm not aware of anyone offering it. The factory Dodge finish looks great when new, but if it's just a coat of paint it won't look nice for long under the truck.

This company sells the upgraded steering and it's greasable. I verified this before I ordered.

will this setup eliminate the dead slop the steering wheel has in it? feels like while going straight i can move the wheel back n forth too much before the truck responds.

Does the source kit have all the same parts ? If not does it just replace a part or two on the update ?

He offers everything. A guy on another forum had the whole Source upgrade kit for sale for a reasonable cost. I choked and didn't buy it and had dw a month later and paid more.

I was on Sources website and they make no mention of the pitman arm. Is this included ?
