rock chip

Glad 1 of my business's is automotive touch up. Here are some tips for touch up.

1. On white, make it brighter then normal, it will darken. After 5 minutes of dry time, go over chip marks with new terry cloth and compound. Now u have a brand new white paint job again.

2. Any other color, DONT USE BRUSHES. use a dang syringe and put reducer in mix till it starts to drip 3 times from mixing. Then put in syringe. Fill chip slightly higher and 5 minutes later it will settle down. As for blends on colored cars, I use home brew chemicals to blend and wash off. For all u noobs who dont know anything about touch up, DONT BLEND WITH WAX on color cars. Hopefully this helps. I know this is common sense but the auto market luvs my company work and it pays my bills!!! plus some

Hate to say it but that 3m stuff looks like $hit after a few years of it sitting in the sun. Its starts to crack and looks plain ugly. Dont waste money on 3M unless ur truck sits in the garage which 99.9999999% of people on this site trucks are to **** big to fit in a garage

I had the 3m stuff put on the day after it came off the lot new, still looks good, been outside ever day after that, never lifted nore pelled or faded or even dis-colour not one crack in it. I well say that it doesnt get that hot here where I live in the summer months gets fairly cold in the winter so maybe thats why the 3m stuff is still good it doesnt see much hot sun. Even the headlights still look like new ones no scratches in them or fading on the lens nothen. The 3m stuff been good for me

I lived both in houston and florida where temps can easily reach 100F. The cars and trucks I have seen were in both states. It is the sun that does the damage but like u said, if u live in a different state where temps dont get so hot in the summers, u should be ok.

So ccoop769 How would you go about fixing scratches on the side of the truck just deep enough to see the primer. And does the syringe thing work on chips on the side as well? to me it sounds good for on a flat spot I am thinking the paint well run if done on the side. Just a easy way would be great if you dont mind giving up any more of your trade secrets to a noob. HAHAHA.

Line-X

My truck has paint bubbles around both rear wheels. they don't appear to be from stone chips. dodge will not cover it because there are no holes in the metal. I was ****** about that! Three year old truck and the paint is messed up. i spoke with the line-x guys of central NY and they quoted me $1600 for the bed and a chip guard. They say it takes for ever to mask. They also want the truck for 2 days.

Yea the pinchwelds are a royal pain in the ___ to clean, at least mine is. So much road debris gets caked on there and they don't get cleaned enough. It's almost like it's cooked on there.

Question for you marc03. Im sure you have had your truck plastered in mud/debris with the rockers line-x'd right? After you wash it does the line-x have a shine to it or is it a dull black filled with mud stains?

If the panel doesnt get sprayed, I would mix/prepare paint thicker and still use syringe, and go across scratch. I do blends also with my stuff. U could wetsand/buff your extra touchup off, it wouldnt look brandnew but its free if u did it and look better. Also, u could shoot a coat of clear on that panel that nice extra finish but thats only optional.

a bit dull, but wash it with soap and water and the scrub side of a dish sponge. Then spray on some http://www.justonce.com/ and it looks good as new. I also have the uv protection on mine, dont know if that helps with the shine at all.

I just put the cheapo DC rubber mud flaps on mine.
A little too late as the first time I went down a gravel road, it got the paint chipped.
This was with the OEM Michellin A\S tires.
The mud flaps work not bad.
